I started this project because my grandfather recently suffered from a heart attack but wasn’t able to figure out that he had a heart attack, so he had to face a lot of complications. It would have been really easy if he would have had the knowledge of symptoms leading to heart attack. I chose the ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ heart awareness project because I recognize the importance of heart health and the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases. I wanted to contribute to raising awareness and promoting preventive measures within my community.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience.
I initiated the ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ project after recognizing a lack of awareness about heart health within my school and local community. I observed that many individuals were unaware of the risk factors and preventive measures related to cardiovascular diseases. I defined the project’s goals as raising awareness about heart health, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and providing access to basic health screenings. I conducted thorough research on cardiovascular diseases, risk factors, and preventive measures, using reputable sources such as the World Health Organization and local health organizations.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
Creating informative and engaging educational materials required extensive research and collaboration. I committed to spending several hours each week researching and designing brochures, posters, and presentations. Raising awareness about heart health is an ongoing process. I committed to maintaining a consistent presence on social media, sharing informative content and engaging with the community even after the main events concluded.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
We divided the task of researching and compiling information on heart health, ensuring accuracy and clarity in our educational materials. Working together allowed us to pool our knowledge and create comprehensive resources. Creating visual aids and presentations required collaboration to ensure consistency and effectiveness. We shared ideas, provided feedback, and worked together to refine our designs. We worked collaboratively to manage social media accounts, creating and scheduling posts, and responding to inquiries. This allowed us to keep the community informed and engaged.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally, affecting millions of people across all demographics. This makes it a critical global health issue. There are significant disparities in CVD prevalence and mortality rates across different regions of the world.Factors such as access to healthcare, lifestyle choices, and environmental factors contribute to these disparities. We incorporated WHO guidelines and recommendations into our educational materials and awareness campaigns.
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
We ensured that all educational materials and health information provided during the project were accurate, reliable, and based on credible sources. We consulted with healthcare professionals and used evidence-based resources to develop our materials. We considered the ethical implications of promoting specific health practices or products and ensured that our recommendations were based on scientific evidence and aligned with ethical guidelines. We aimed to make our heart awareness project accessible to all members of the community, regardless of their socioeconomic status, cultural background, or language proficiency. We considered the needs of diverse populations and implemented strategies to ensure inclusivity.
