Global Odyssey – Creativity

This is an event managed by school and few of the grade 11 volunteers to display their skills regarding business management. This is an event where we have to create various kinds of stalls where we can store food, games, etc to entertain the students and teachers coming to our stalls. Our project was a stall where the visitors could pay a certain amount to play various games on the PS5 console we brought.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Business is all about highlighting strengths and earning through our own capability. Therefore, I chose to utilize one of my strengths, which were my gaming skills, in order to earn and let the contestants play for a good time. I had employed my strengths in the game and stall, which was a 1v1 FIFA match with the students who paid us to play. I was sure of my ability and decided to challenge myself by maintaining a risk to lose some of the profit because if the opponenet win, they get a discount. I also had a big weakness, which was to attract the audience for the activity and persuade them to participate in the game, which was a difficult task for me. I couldn’t persuade the crowd, leading to fewer customers for my stall activity and less revenue. I would prefer to work upon my weakness in order to rise more customers to the activity and hence potentially increase the profit level for my stall. Now that I am well aware of my strengths and weaknesses after going through this event, I will work on my weaknesses so that I appeal to more people and raise the profit margin for my stall, and continue applying the strengths and my talent for a better performance. It is absolutely necessary that we understand ourselves very well as individuals so that we can make use of our potential to do our best in any event. Had I identified and worked upon my weakness at first, I would have brought in more people towards the stall and would have received more players for the game, which means that there will be more profit.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

I had to encounter a few difficulties in the entire process of this event. First, there was the task to attract the audience, our stall was in the corner which lead to a significantly less audience attraction. We needed permission from the school to get a few of the resources first because some games were online and required a very stable network connection for which we had to bring our phones and connect them with the PS5. I have done some similar activities in school, which was a business fair in IH. This activity gave me experience on how to run a business stall, overcome different problems, utilize our strengths and weaknesses, etc. It was a very challenging task to have the audience play and participate because most were not interested in playing as nowadays it is pretty common to own a PS5. But it’s actually very necessary to take new challenges so that we go through various tough tasks and utilize those in future events to improve our performance. It is actually very necessary to gain new skills because it would assist in overcoming various barriers coming in our way and also enhancing our confidence to carry out various activities.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

This activity primarily involves group working with a group of individuals distributing each member of the group with various tasks to organize the stall. I was part of a group of 5 individuals, and all the members and I had my part to engage and compete with the audience who were willing to take part in the activity. Collaborating in a group is usually simple for me since collaborating as a group gathers various ideas, and it helps in better performance and understanding. It was simple to work in a group for this event as compared to to working individually since we had divided our tasks individually, e.g., interacting with the customers, handling profit/finance, etc, and it made the work quicker and in motion. It is necessary to work in groups because it brings various information and ideas together and produces good outcomes. Each member had experience in other positions, so we split each member according to their strengths to work better.

In conclusion, this event is something that can be recorded as a positive experience for me since it made me realize my strengths and weaknesses, which may assist me in other events. The learner profile most closely associated with this event would probably be risk-taker since to make a profit, we had to be risky. In case we lost the game, we had to give a huge discount to the players. There is a connection between the business management topic and the CAS experience since we had to demonstrate our skills and the knowledge we had acquired in the topic. The best part of this event was teamwork with my team members, as it was actually fun working with the group members in a productive manner. On my part, this event was successful, although we did not make a large profit margin. We had a lot to learn from this event and gained a lot. If we had to re-run this event, I wouldn’t do anything different, because we had done a lot of work for this event. Our group could perhaps improve on how they engage the audience and on getting more people to get attracted towards our stall.
