ISSO Volunteering

I recently volunteered at the ISSO event hosted by Fountainhead School, where I was the escort for the U-14 girls’ team from Dhirubhai Ambani International School. My role involved ensuring smooth communication, escorting the team to their venues, and assisting them with refreshments. This experience not only challenged my organizational and interpersonal skills but also highlighted the value of collaboration, perseverance, and adaptability in creating a successful event.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Volunteering at an event of this scale required me to step out of my comfort zone. Coordinating with a group of athletes from another school, ensuring they were comfortable and on schedule, and addressing last-minute changes posed significant challenges. These situations taught me the importance of quick decision-making and effective communication. For instance, when one venue was delayed, I quickly arranged for the team to wait in a shaded area with refreshments, demonstrating flexibility and problem-solving.

LO3: Initiate and Plan a CAS experience

It is important to understand that while planning a CAS experience a lot of factors need to be taken into account. Such as, studying for exams, communicating with other people and also knowing if you will be able to give your 100% or not. For the same, before beginning this experience I had to plan my timetable in order to maintain the flow of my studies and understand how I will be able to give my 100% and also started to communicate more with people in the team in order to build better relations.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Supporting the team throughout the day demanded consistent effort and focus. From early morning arrivals to late evening departures, I stayed committed to ensuring the athletes’ experience was seamless. There were moments when juggling multiple tasks felt overwhelming, but my determination to fulfill my role kept me motivated. Moreover, I performed this task over a span of 5 days showcasing my determination and consistency.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Working with the team and other volunteers highlighted the power of collaboration. Ensuring that the athletes reached their venues on time and had everything they needed required teamwork and clear communication. I learned to coordinate effectively, delegate tasks when needed, and listen to the athletes’ feedback. Furthermore, I also had to be in active communication with other volunteers, so that I stay updated about other matches too. This collaborative approach not only made the event more efficient but also built a sense of trust between the volunteers and the participants.

Conclusion
Volunteering at the ISSO event was an enriching experience that allowed me to develop new skills, demonstrate perseverance, and collaborate effectively with others. It was fulfilling to contribute to the athletes’ positive experience, and the lessons I learned about teamwork and adaptability will stay with me in future endeavors.
