I participated in the ISSO (International Schools Sports Organization) basketball event, where schools from various regions came together to showcase their talent and sportsmanship. This event not only allowed us to compete but also to foster connections with other schools and promote teamwork.
LO1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
Before the event, I assessed my basketball skills and recognized that while I was strong in defense, I needed to improve my shooting accuracy. Throughout the practices leading up to the event, I focused on this area, setting personal goals for each session.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Participating in a competitive setting was challenging. I faced pressure from both the game’s intensity and the need to perform well as part of a team. I learned to manage my nerves and communicate effectively with teammates, which was crucial during high-pressure moments.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
Committing to the training sessions, even when I felt fatigued, was essential. I learned that perseverance is key not only in sports but in any challenging situation. This mindset helped me push through tough practices and stay focused on our goals for the event.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
The event highlighted the importance of collaboration. We had to work together as a cohesive unit on the court, with each player understanding their role. I learned to value each team member’s contributions and realized that success is a collective effort.
LO6: Engage with issues of global significance.
The ISSO event brought together students from various cultures, promoting intercultural understanding and respect. I engaged with peers from different backgrounds, learning how basketball can bridge gaps and foster friendships despite our diverse origins.
The ISSO basketball event was not just a competition; it was a valuable learning experience. It taught me important life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and effective communication. I left the event with a sense of accomplishment, not only for my individual growth but also for our team’s collective success.
Moving forward, I aim to continue developing my basketball skills while applying these lessons to other areas of my life. The event reminded me that challenges can lead to growth, and I am excited to embrace future opportunities that come my way.
Participating in the ISSO basketball event was an enriching experience that highlighted the essence of the IB’s CAS program. It pushed me to challenge myself, work collaboratively, and engage with a diverse community. I look forward to more events that foster both personal and team development in the future!
