Cyber Security- CAS Project

During a four-day cyber security event, I spent my school days teaching students from grades 5-10 about the importance of cyber security in a fun and interactive way. The main activity was a jeopardy-style game that I created with my team, which allowed the students to learn about topics such as online safety, privacy, and digital responsibility. With the help of two other students, I carefully chose the questions to make sure that they were both educational and accessible for all grades. This project was a great opportunity for both personal and collaborative growth while effectively teaching important knowledge to children who may not be aware about the same.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

I was thoroughly involved in both the initiation and planning of the event. I was able to demonstrate a considerable level of leadership and responsibility, not only within my team but also during the preparation with decoration. When I was working with my teammates to develop the jeopardy game and the questions for it, I had to be sure that the content was both accurate and suitable for students across various grade levels so that it would not be too difficult yet still challenging. I took the initiative in researching up-to-date cyber security trends and facts, which helped create meaningful questions for the game. This project showcased my ability to manage tasks and contribute to the planning and execution of the event.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Collaboration was extremely important for the success of this project, and I actively worked with my peers to make sure the jeopardy game went smoothly. Each team member had distinct responsibilities, and we maintained constant communication throughout the process. My contribution was integral to developing the questions and creating the board that would be used on the website to ask questions. This teamwork required effective communication and a willingness to compromise and support one another. By working together, we created an engaging and educational experience that reached hundreds of students.

LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance

The cyber security event allowed me to engage with issues of global significance, specifically online safety and digital privacy. During our games with the students, we discussed the growing global challenges surrounding cyber threats, data protection, and privacy rights. These issues are becoming more and more relevant in today’s interconnected world, and through our jeopardy game, we showcased how cyber security impacts everyone, no matter what age they are. By spreading awareness with younger students about these global challenges, I helped create a sense of responsibility and encouraged them to consider the implications of their digital actions both locally and globally.

LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Throughout the event, I recognised and considered the ethical implications of the choices and actions we, as digital users, make on a daily basis. Cyber security involves not only understanding technical aspects but also discussing the moral dimensions of the digital world, such as respecting privacy, the consequences of online bullying, and the importance of responsible digital citizenship. During our development of the questions for the jeopardy game, we made had to make decisions to present ethical scenarios that would challenge the students to think critically about their online behavior. They learned about hacking, viruses, and cyber laws. This points towards being ethically responsible online and teaches them about the consequences of being unethical. This experience taught me how ethical considerations are essential when discussing cyber security.
