During the Creative Mela, I conducted workshops for younger students, teaching dream catcher making to grade 6 and loom band crafting to grade 5. My goal was to inspire creativity, engage the students in hands-on learning, and foster an appreciation for handmade art. I aimed to create a fun and interactive environment while helping them explore their artistic potential.
LO1 – Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
Leading the workshop highlighted my strengths in teaching and guiding others through creative tasks. I discovered I had a natural ability to connect with younger students, simplifying instructions and keeping them engaged. However, I recognized that managing a large group of students required better organizational skills, which I plan to improve in future workshops to ensure smoother coordination.
LO2 – Undertaking Challenges and Developing New Skills
The challenge was maintaining the attention of students with varying levels of interest and skill. To address this, I adapted my teaching style to be more interactive and patient. This experience taught me the importance of flexibility and the value of clear communication, skills that will be beneficial in future teaching or leadership roles.
LO5 – Demonstrating the Skills and Recognizing the Benefits of Working Collaboratively
The workshop was a collaborative effort as I worked with the students to ensure their success. Encouraging them to help one another and share materials created a sense of teamwork. This collaboration emphasized the importance of peer learning, where students inspired and supported one another throughout the creative process.
Final Takeaway
This experience helped me grow as a Communicator, Caring, and Open-Minded learner. The highlight was seeing the excitement and pride on the students’ faces when they completed their dream catchers and loom bands. It reinforced my belief in the value of fostering creativity in others and reminded me of the impact small initiatives can have in building confidence and skills in young minds. Moving forward, I aim to organize more such activities and inspire others to explore their creative potential.
