Cross Country

My goal for cross-country was to build endurance and mental resilience by running 3km races, often on challenging terrain. I wanted to push my physical limits, improve pacing, and balance this commitment with my academics and other activities. I aimed to build confidence and consistency by reflecting on my progress and learning from each race.

LO1 – Identifying Strengths and Weaknesses
Through this experience, I found strengths in perseverance and maintaining a steady pace, but realized my endurance was a weakness. Recognizing these areas was eye-opening and helped me understand how to focus my training. It’s crucial to know both strengths and weaknesses because it directs improvement. Addressing my weaker endurance has pushed me to work on endurance training, which will benefit me not only in cross-country but also in other physical challenges I may face.

LO2 – Undertaking Challenges and Developing New Skills
The toughest challenge was pushing through fatigue, a type of intensity I hadn’t experienced before. Practicing and focusing on specific techniques helped me adapt, building both physical and mental stamina. This experience taught me the value of persistence and has shown me that taking on new challenges is key to self-growth. I discovered a new ability to stay focused under pressure, a skill I’ll use in future sports and academic settings.

LO4 – Demonstrating Commitment and Perseverance
Staying committed to regular training, especially on tough days, required perseverance. Committing to a long-term activity like cross-country wasn’t always easy, especially with academic pressures, but seeing gradual improvement made it worthwhile. Showing commitment and persistence taught me that consistent effort is vital in achieving long-term goals, something I can apply to both academic and personal projects.

Cross-country helped me develop as a Balanced, Risk-taker, and Reflective learner. I learned to manage my time between academics and athletics, take on physical challenges with courage, and reflect on each race to identify growth areas. The highlight of this experience was achieving personal records, which boosted my confidence and enjoyment. The skills I gained in resilience and adaptability have inspired me to set new goals and encourage others to find strength in persistence. I hope to continue challenging myself and inspire peers by showing how setting and pursuing tough goals can lead to growth.
