(December 16–21, 2024)
Our Rural Immersion 2024 at Ambapani’s Eco Tourism Campsite in Dang was a life changing experience that includes all three components of Creativity, Activity, and Service. Over the course of seven days, I engaged in a range of activities, including:
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
This journey pushed me beyond my comfort zone, encouraging me to explore new skills and identify areas for growth. Activities like Lippan art, cow milking, and baaj making initially felt challenging, but perseverance allowed me to improve. Among them, baaj making was particularly difficult for me, yet consistent effort helped me refine my technique. Conversely, I discovered a natural talent for Warli painting and rifle shooting, excelling in both. This newfound self-awareness will guide me in further developing my creative and physical abilities.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Adapting to village life was a significant challenge, as it was vastly different from my usual lifestyle. Living in a rural setting required adjusting to limited resources, unfamiliar tasks, and a slower pace of life. Activities like cow milking and Lippan art were completely new to me, demanding patience and adaptability. However, these experiences strengthened my problem-solving abilities, social competence, and resilience, making me more open to tackling unfamiliar challenges in the future.
LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
During our visit to the Ashramshala, my peers and I took the initiative to organize activities for the students. We planned a frisbee game, assigning specific roles to ensure a smooth execution. Additionally, we coordinated responsibilities during their meal break, carefully designating tasks for food distribution and logistics management. This experience strengthened my leadership, teamwork, and event-planning skills, enabling me to apply structured thinking in a service-oriented environment.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Every activity, whether it was river bathing, trekking, or Lippan art, required commitment and perseverance. Initially, some of these activities felt uncomfortable or unfamiliar, but I challenged myself to participate wholeheartedly. By pushing through the discomfort, I not only gained new experiences but also a sense of accomplishment. This mindset reinforced the value of dedication and resilience, encouraging me to embrace new opportunities despite initial hesitations.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The immersion experience emphasized the importance of teamwork and cooperation. Engaging in activities such as Haat bazaar shopping required us to negotiate prices, make collective decisions, and divide responsibilities effectively. While differing perspectives occasionally led to disagreements, we learned to listen, compromise, and work toward shared goals. The experience reinforced the significance of effective communication and collaboration in achieving success.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The trip offered a firsthand insight into critical global issues such as poverty, limited access to education, inadequate sanitation, and insufficient healthcare. Seeing the economic struggles of artisans like bamboo weavers and Dangi dancers underscored the financial instability threatening traditional art forms. The scarcity of basic necessities, including clean water and medical care, emphasized the urgency of addressing these challenges. Experiencing these realities deepened my commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development.
The Rural Immersion at Ambapani was a transformative experience that pushed me beyond my comfort zone, fostering personal growth, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for rural life. Engaging in diverse activities across Creativity, Activity, and Service, I developed new skills, strengthened my teamwork and leadership abilities, and gained a broader perspective on global issues such as poverty, education, and sustainability. The experience highlighted the importance of perseverance, ethical responsibility, and social awareness, shaping me into a more open-minded and proactive individual.
