Rock climbing was wonderful. It is a breath-taking and physically demanding ordeal that forces me to my limit on both physical and mental fronts. And, it was not just about summitting walls but also about learning important skills like belaying, resilience training, and teamwork. Every session brought up challenges that were different from the last and required endurance, patience, and problem-solving skills. It also stretched me outside my comfort zones as it made me feel accomplished and taught me life skills like having perseverance, concentrating on goals, and growing as a person. I gained an insight into my strengths and weaknesses and developed an appreciation of the immense amount of hard work and commitment that goes into succeeding at this experience.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
The first couple of feet were a bit easy, but the real challenge came after that: it was pushing myself to be better. All the time, when I was trying to beat my previous climbing time, I would use many different attempts, better methods, and lots of resilience on my part. This exercise taught me patience, and the importance of unremitting effort. Plus, learning to climb new routes had improved competence in problem-solving because every climb meant a different challenge to face.

LO4: Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience
Rock climbing has truly been something I had to wrestle with. It is not all about pure bodily power; it is just as much about mental strength to continue pushing through on those undesirable days. Each climb is a totally new experience that constantly brings new challenges, like awkward holds or heights. I was really struggling on some of the routes; at times, I was angry with myself for being unable to finish. But I practiced, learned from my failures, and pushed myself to become better. Not that it was ever easy for me, but I was extremely stubborn in wanting to keep going. This journey has taught me something about persistence, problem-solving, and not being afraid to fail; it’s all part of the journey, and all part of learning and growing.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Rock climbing is an activity that demands both safety and responsibility. Proper gear and safety guidelines are crucial to protect participants, highlighting the importance of individual responsibility for everyone involved. This experience directly impacted my actions, as I had to ensure I followed safety procedures. After this, I gained a deeper appreciation for the significant role safety plays in all physical activities. My belief that safety matters remains steadfast, and this experience emphasized the value of ethical accountability when dealing with dangerous situations.
Rock climbing was more than just a physical challenge; it was a journey of self-discovery and growth. It taught me to focus, build confidence, and embrace the thrill of learning something new. This experience inspired me to prioritize the SDG goal “Good Health and Wellbeing” by promoting physical fitness, mental toughness, and overall well-being. It also pushed me to step outside my comfort zone and face the challenges that come with learning and growing.
