The Staff Garba Fest was an energetic event that brought together teachers to celebrate and perform Garba. The event was held in the school assembly, covered with colorful hangings and personally decorated by a team of grade 11 & 12 students. The songs played one after another, and we danced for 2 hours without realising The event was not only about dance but also a wonderful opportunity for teachers and students to immerse in culture, and engage in physical activity together.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Garba requires agility, coordination, and stamina, and I initially struggled with that. The continuous garba left me with pain, as I was not accustomed to dancing on hot concrete causing blisters on my feet. However, through practice and observation, I identified my strength in quickly picking up the beats and adapting to different styles of dodhiya. One of my major areas of growth was confidence as at first, I hesitated to perform, scared of making a mistakes and seeming novice. But with encouragement from friends, I gradually overcame my fear and participated with enthusiasm. This experience helped me realize that stepping out of my comfort zone can lead to personal growth and a lot of fun.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The Staff Garba Fest was organized by the student team (G11 & G12 students), and I was part of the décor team. Setting up the decorations was a full-day effort, as we worked from 9 AM to 4 PM. With limited time, efficiency was vital, and we had to collaborate effectively to ensure everything was completed on time. My responsibilities were preparing props for the photo zone and hanging decorative items, which required constant teamwork. Working alongside others not only helped us finish the tasks quickly but also made me feel a sense of belonging. This experience also taught me the value of respecting different perspectives, seeking feedback in my own work, and trusting in the abilities of my teammates.
LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Garba is a folk dance from Gujarat, as its celebration signifies preserving and promoting traditional art forms. Folk dances hold historical and cultural value, and performing them initiate appreciation for diverse cultures.
