Volunteering at Kalakriti

Creativity

Kalakriti is an inter-school competition that showcases talent in music, visual arts, dance, and drama. I volunteered at both Kalakritis events: one for music and visual arts and the other for dance and drama. My role involved registering participants and schools, guiding them to the respective venues, tracking performance time limits, calculating final scores, collecting feedback from the judges, and maintaining record of the scores and feedback in a Google Sheet. I also helped ensure the event ran smoothly by coordinating with the hosts about rankings and winner announcements.

LO4 – Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience

Both events were held on Saturdays, so I had to come to school specifically to volunteer. The events were from 8 am to 3:30pm, so I had to stay focused throughout, especially when managing timekeeping and score calculations.

Maintaining accurate records in the Google Sheet and averaging scores required attention to detail, and I had to ensure there were no mistakes. Even when tasks became repetitive and somewhat monotonous, I remained committed to completing them properly. This experience reinforced the importance of staying responsible and dedicated, even when tasks are time-consuming. Hence, my dedication toward my assigned role shows my perseverance and commitment toward the CAS experience.

LO5 – Demonstrating Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

Since Kalakriti was a large-scale event, working as a team was essential. I collaborated with other volunteers, judges, and event hosts to ensure everything ran on schedule. At times, some schools weren’t ready with their performance setup, had delays in arriving, or cancelled their performance altogether. When this happened, I had to coordinate with the hosts so they could adjust the event order if needed.

Having different volunteers assigned to various responsibilities made the workflow more manageable. While some handled participant movement, I focused on score calculations and feedback collection, making the process more efficient. Through this experience, I saw the benefits of working collaboratively and how good communication and teamwork make managing an event a smooth process.

Conclusion

Volunteering at Kalakriti helped me develop organizational skills and teamwork. It also showed me how perseverance is important when handling responsibilities. Working with others to manage unexpected situations was a good learning experience, and I learned that clear communication and coordination are the key to running an event successfully.
