Sports Tournament: Pickleball for a Cause (Activity)

Playing a pickleball tournament not only gave me an opportunity to indulge in a new sport but also helped a cause. The tournament, which was organized by the NGO “Play to Beat,” was to collect money for cancer patients, showing us how sports can be used as a means for social good.
Description: I took part in a charity pickleball tournament, and the entrance fees and donations went towards supporting cancer patients. I won the first two matches, which enhanced my confidence and made me feel accomplished. This experience blended sportsmanship with social responsibility, bringing to the forefront the value of leveraging one’s passions for a greater good.

Playing pickleball for a purpose was a rewarding experience that combined physical exercise with community service. It taught me how personal interests can be directed toward positive social contribution.
Show Skills and Acknowledge the Strength of Teamwork (LO5): Teamwork was at the heart of this tournament, on and off court. My partner in doubles and I collaborated in planning, coordinating well, and motivating one another on court. Outside of competition, we communicated with other attendees, volunteers, and organizers and established a spirit of camaraderie that stemmed from a shared purpose.

Participation in Issues of Global Relevance (LO6): The tournament tackled the issue of cancer care and support at a global level. Through the act of participating and contributing, I was joining a bigger cause that promoted accessible healthcare and cancer patient support. This experience made me realize further the value of leveraging one’s interests and capabilities to bring about positive change.

Identify and Reflect on the Ethics of Decisions and Actions (LO7): Joining a charity event highlighted the ethical obligation to contribute to the community. It made me remember that sports do not have to be merely competitive and entertaining, but can be used as a platform for voice and social contribution.
Implication and Personal Development: This experience opened my eyes to the possibility of how individual interests can converge with social purpose. It challenged me to find more opportunities wherein my interests may be used for greater causes, further solidifying the belief that every little effort counts towards a better world.
