Farewell- Creativity

To celebrate the final year of the Grade 12 students, the school hosts a farewell to bid adieu to them that the juniors help organise. I was part of the dance committee and performed in two 10-minute dance routines as part of the entertainment. In the weeks leading up to the event, we practiced regularly to perfect our performance. On the day of the farewell, the dance commitee also pitched in with setting up the decor to make the event a sucsessful one. It was a great experience that required teamwork, dedication, and commitment.

LO1Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Participating in the farewell dance performance helped me realise how capable I am of learning choreography and giving a confident performance in front of a crowd. Additionally, I had trouble with complicated steps, which required more work to learn. I was able to identify my rhythmic and coordination skills through this experience, but I also realised that I need to improve my endurance and movement accuracy.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Despite my fear of performing in front of a huge crowd, I accepted the challenge. Patience and commitment were needed to learn and commit the dance to memory. It was difficult for me because I had to get up early every day for practice. Additionally, I had to efficiently manage my time and make sure to cover up because I missed some rehearsals. This experience taught me how to manage a lot of responsibilities.

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience.
While I didn’t initiate the experience, I helped initiating the dance part of the event. I contributed to helping with planning and initiating the choreography, music and other vital parts of the dance. This helped me understand what goes behind planning a certain part of an event. It helped improve my collaboration skills and overall critical thinking skills I had to initiate and plan a few parts of the event.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Preparing for the occasion took dedication. Almost every working day, we had to come for early ins. I diligently attended every early in so that I could learn all the dance steps. I persevered in preparation for the event by staying focused and giving it my all despite the time and effort commitment.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Teamwork was necessary because the dance was a group performance. We had to keep appropriate formations and coordinate our moves. We helped each other learn the difficult steps and supported one another during the rehearsals. We recognised the value of teamwork in achieving a common objective. We made sure the performance went well by cooperating.
