Kalakriti – Activity

Kalakriti is a thrilling interschool dance competition that brings different schools together and compete against them showcasing their talent. with different categories like contemporary, classical and western dance the event acts as a platform for students to express themselves through a dance form. I had the privilege to participate in the dance group, which was one of the most thrilling experiences of my CAS journey. We worked tirelessly to perfect our routine, blending dance styles and learning new techniques it not only helped me showcasing skills but also was an opportunity to reflect and develop strength.

LO 1. Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Being part of the dance group for the kalakriti event was such an eye opener. It gave me the chance to show off my dance skills. Also made me reflect on what I’m good at and where I need to improve. I have always known that dancing is something I really love and it is definitely one of my strengths. I have always loved dancing and I realized that I can pick up new moves pretty quickly. One of my strengths is staying motivated. One big challenge was coordination. Especially with the more complex moves. I struggled to match my moves with my teammates. This made me realized that dance isn’t jsut about expressing yourself but also about syncing up with others. Asking for feedbacks from my teammates and sir was a quite helpful. By the end I could see a real improvement in my techniques and overall performance. This whole experience showed me that figuring out our strengths and weaknesses is key to growing and that with practice and being open to feedback i can keep me improving as a dancer.

LO 2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

The competition presented several challenges that tested my capacity to bounce back and adjust to new situations but in the process i learned new skills and grew both as a dancer and a person. one of the biggest challenges we faced as a group was synchronizing our movements. At first we were all learning at different paces it difficult for everyone to be perfectly in sync. this meant that I had to practice even harder to match my movements with the rest of the team. There were moments during rehearsals when I felt frustrated when I struggled to keep up with the choreography. Another challenge was performing in front of the audience. Through this experience I developed better self confidence and improved my ability to handle performance anxiety. I learned that being nervous is normal I can use that energy to improve my performance rather than allow it get in the way. I also picked up some new skills related to dance techniques especially when it comes to timing, stage presence and making my movements more precise. These challenges helped me grow not only physically but mentally too. These lessons are something I will take with me not just for future performances but in other areas of my life as well.

LO 5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working of working collaboratively

Kalakriti really highlighted how important teamwork and collaboration are. Right from the start of rehearsals it was clear that our success as a group relied on everyone giving their best. We constantly communicated helping each other with tough steps and offering moral support when needed. Our teammates were there to offer feedback and remind us for our progress. In improving our performance and this teamwork made the overall experience much more pleasurable and rewarding. I came to see that teamwork involves more than just sharing responsibilities but is also about encouraging one another and working towards a common goal. I learned how to develop my teamwork skills. I realised the value of trust, reliability and active listening. Each member’s input was crucial to the routine’s success and I discovered that no single achievement can match the power of group working. I valued the personal growth that came from the working so closely with my teammates.
