Rock Climbing – Activity

Rock climbing was a thrilling challenge that tested both my body and mind. Over four sessions in two months, I learned key techniques, practiced belaying, and improved my problem-solving skills. Each climb required strategy, endurance, and patience. When I tried rock climbing for the first time, it was both exciting and a little intimidating. I struggled to find the right places for my hands and feet and couldn’t make it to the top on my first attempt. But with more practice and experience, I learned how to balance better and plan my moves. Eventually, I was able to reach the top, and that feeling of accomplishment made all the effort worth it.

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through my rock climbing experience, I recognized both my strengths and areas for improvement. One of my strengths was perseverance I kept pushing myself even when I struggled to complete a climb. I also developed problem-solving skills by learning how to plan my moves efficiently.

However, I identified areas for growth, such as improving my upper body strength and grip endurance, which were essential for tougher climbs. I also needed to work on my confidence in tackling more challenging routes without hesitation. Over time, consistent practice helped me build these skills, showing me the importance of patience and continuous effort in personal growth.

LO 2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills in the Process

Rock climbing presented both physical and mental challenges that pushed me beyond my comfort zone. On my first attempt, I was unable to reach the top, struggling with grip strength, endurance, and finding the right technique to navigate difficult routes. However, with time and practice, I gradually improved my ability to assess holds, plan my movements, and distribute my weight effectively.

Each session introduced new obstacles, from trickier handholds to maintaining balance while using only one side of the wall, requiring me to adapt and refine my approach. With persistence, I built the strength and confidence needed to complete the climb, turning my initial struggle into a significant achievement. Over time, I developed better coordination, balance, and problem-solving skills, which not only helped me in climbing but also enhanced my overall resilience and determination. This experience reinforced the importance of stepping up to challenges and embracing them as opportunities for growth.

LO 4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Rock climbing required dedication, as progress did not come instantly. Each session tested my endurance and mental focus, but I remained determined to improve. Waking up early in the cold winter mornings to attend these sessions and do rock climbing was challenging, but my commitment to the experience kept me motivated.

Through consistent effort, I gradually built strength, refined my technique, and gained the confidence to tackle more challenging routes. Even when faced with difficult holds or moments of doubt, I stayed committed to overcoming obstacles. This experience reinforced the value of perseverance and dedication, showing me that steady progress comes with patience and continued effort.

Overall, rock climbing was a challenging yet rewarding experience that pushed me physically and mentally. It required perseverance, problem-solving, and commitment, especially on early winter mornings. With consistent effort, I improved my skills, gained confidence, and overcame obstacles. This experience taught me the value of resilience and continuous growth while also being fun.
