Global Odyssey- Creativity, Service

Every year, Fountainhead School organises Global Odyssey, a fun event where students studying for business management and economics gets a chance to experience in entrepreneurship by running food stalls and selling their products. I had an opportunity to contribute this year as the Decoration Leader, in the role of creating and improving the event’s aesthetic appeal. It was an amazing experience that challenged my creativity, improved my leadership abilities, and served as an opportunity for my personal development.

Learning Outcome 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth.

As the Decoration Leader, I knew that creativity and organization were two of my strengths. From brainstorming themes to executing the final arrangement, I enjoyed bringing ideas into existence in a way that attracted people. Yet I also found that I could do better, especially in managing my time and dealing with unexpected situations. Even though I had a clear idea for the decor, I sometimes found it difficult to adjust when things didn’t work out as I had hoped. I learnt from this experience how important flexibility and fast thinking are.

Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.

One of the major challenges I experienced was working within a low budget while however having the event look nice and engaging. I had to get creative with cost-effective materials, reusing materials wherever possible. Furthermore, managing several team members, making sure all decorations were prepared on time, and making last-minute changes on the day of the event helped me to improve my problem-solving and leadership skills. My confidence and quick thinking both improved after overcoming those challenges.

Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

Discussions, budgeting, and many brainstorming meetings were all part of the preparation process, which began weeks in advance. I took the initiative to look into imaginative decorations and themes. I created an organised plan, listing all of the materials required and distributing responsibilities to team members. I learnt a lot about event planning from this experience, including how crucial it is to set reasonable objectives and make sure they are carried out perfectly.

Learning Outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.

The process took a lot of commitment from the very beginning of planning to the very end of execution. difficult moments occurred, particularly when decorations didn’t look as planned or when last-minute changes were challenging. But I was still determined to make sure our stall had a welcoming and eye-catching appeal. Coming in early inns to finish decorations, and overcoming obstacles all strengthened my willpower and capacity to remain committed to a project.

Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Not only were the decorations important to the success of our event, but so was our teamwork. I worked closely with my classmates, exchanging ideas, assigning responsibilities, and making sure that everyone was in agreement. We were able to develop an interesting and well-organised event by successfully getting to know the strengths of each team member. I gained an appreciation for delegation, teamwork, and listening to many viewpoints as a result of this experience.
