Global Odyssey- Creativity

Global Odyssey is a school-organized event, with the support of Grade 11 volunteers, serves as a platform for showcasing their business management skills. It features a variety of stalls offering food, games, and engaging activities, creating an enjoyable experience for both students and teachers. I was a part of the decor team, where in I had to manage the set up and the decor of the event. From the stall set ups, to the stage decorations, all had to be managed by the decor team.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Being part of the decor team for Global Odyssey helped me recognize my strengths while also showing me areas where I could improve. One of my strengths was creativity—I enjoyed brainstorming unique decor ideas that aligned with the event’s global theme. I also realized that I work well under pressure, especially when last-minute changes required quick thinking. However, I also noticed that I could improve my organization skills. There were moments when I struggled to manage materials efficiently, which made me realize the importance of planning ahead. Through this experience, I learned to balance creativity with practicality, ensuring that my ideas were not only visually appealing but also feasible within the given resources and time.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Organizing an event as big as Global Odyssey came with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was adapting to unexpected situations, such as last-minute changes in stall placements or a shortage of materials for decorations. Instead of panicking, I learned to think on my feet and find quick solutions. Additionally, I developed new skills like working with different materials to create visually engaging setups and managing resources efficiently. This experience also improved my problem-solving abilities, as I had to make the best out of the limited time and supplies available. Overcoming these challenges helped me grow not just as a team member but also as an individual.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

From start to finish, Global Odyssey required a lot of dedication and hard work. There were moments when exhaustion kicked in, especially during the final days of preparation when we had to complete the decorations on time. Despite the long hours, I stayed committed to my role, ensuring that everything was set up perfectly before the event began. Balancing this with my academic responsibilities was tough, but I managed my time effectively to fulfill my commitments.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Collaboration was at the heart of Global Odyssey, and working with a team of creative individuals made the entire process more enjoyable. The decor team had to coordinate with different stall organizers, making sure our decorations matched their themes. This required strong communication, active listening, and teamwork. I also learned the importance of compromise—sometimes, my ideas had to be adjusted to fit within the team’s collective vision. Working together made the entire experience smoother, and it showed me that when a team is united and cooperative, even the biggest tasks become easier and more enjoyable.

LO6: Demonstrate Engagement With Issues of Global Significance – Global Odyssey

Global Odyssey addressed global economic and environmental concerns by promoting entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and sustainability. As part of the decor team, I focused on using eco-friendly materials and minimizing waste, aligning with global sustainability efforts. The event also provided students with real-world business experience, enhancing their understanding of economic decision-making and teamwork. Through my role in event setup and design, I contributed to an initiative that combined education, sustainability, and business awareness, making learning more impactful.
