Bal Mela – Service

My partner and I organized Ring Toss as a children’s game to play at our yearly school even that we held for underprivileged schools. They were required to throw a ring into the cone and if they succeeded, they were rewarded. Our primary focus changed towards creating activities that provided fun to children as they played while providing small rewards at stake. The objective I decided to pursue required developing team skills and planning skills along with communication but most of all, I wanted to spread joy. The activity exposed children to spaces for happiness because they usually get deprived of these entertaining activities. The experience exposed me to personanl development by letting me help other people through our community building exercise.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Getting the children organized and taking part in the game fairly for all was the most challenging part. Managing this activity was not easy as I had to maintain constant concentration along with instant decision-making abilities and utmost patience. Being a participant in past school events I went through different kinds of tasks but game management for so many children was my first-time duty. In order to overcome the challenge, I kept calm and communicated effectively with my teammate while coordinating with the participants efficiently. Accepting new challenges shows individuals how to become adapt to stressful circumstances and develop resilience and creative thinking skills. I improved my skills in quick problem-solving and dealing with different kinds of circumstances. My implementation of this skill will be useful throughout my future career as a leader and while at planning events and teamwork projects. Gaining new skills enhances my confidence that fuels my eagerness to better ourselves all the time. New skill learning empowers our capacity to prepare for unexpected situations and also to build ourselves personally and professionally.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working in groups is something that I am used to doing since I enjoy both talking over ideas with others and dividing the workload and giving each other mutual support to achieve common goals. The activity went on smoothly between my teammate and me since we had effective communication and offered each other ongoing support. My teammate and I had no problems when we managed the activity together successfully. Teamwork is still key since individuals are able to share responsibilities better while problem-solving collectively while sharing information. The task of monitoring the game and keeping the children engaged with fairness required in handling the crowded area called for teamwork on our part. Through our collective coordination and leadership skills we provided a structured event which brought joy to all participants.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

This CAS experience revealed that underprivileged children have limited opportunities in both the learning and other activities. So many children globally lack access to basic needs that affect their well-being along with their potential development in our society. Social development along with equality and human rights globally suffer immensely from this specific issue. My realization of the problem caused me to be more empathetic towards society and more accountable when it comes to social issues. I realized the importance of voluntary community service in the provision of aid to those in need. The experience encouraged me to continue committed to providing equal opportunities to all regardless of where they come from.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

The primary ethical issue was to promote fairness as well as inclusion in acting as the manager of the game. All children regardless of any background ought to have equal chances to participate and thrive in the competition. The ethical problem immediately involved me since I had to ensure that children were not left out and treated badly. Through this experience, I realized why we must treat people equally in every aspect of daily interactions. From my involvement this task assisted me in understanding how important it is to be fair and respectful in interacting with underprivileged students.

My involvement in this CAS experience helped me develop caring and open-minded learner attributes since I spent time with underprivileged children while encouraging their sense of belonging and self-worth. My experience connected to TOK topics since I took into consideration the ethical issues as well as the importance of fairness in all actions. Through this activity, others experienced happiness and motivation along with a good feeling of achievement. Observing them enjoy life fully was the most memorable experience which made me rethink my knowledge about privilege and helped me become more empathetic towards others. I realized myself that ethical attitude as well as team spirit and sympathy are the basic roles because of this experience. More kids and variety of other activities must be incorporated if I have to implement this project in the future. I shall apply my gathered knowledge and skills to support community event and strive to promote equality and kindness in the whole world!
