Rock climbing was a thrilling and demanding activity that pushed both my body and mind. It was not merely about getting to the summit of the wall but also about acquiring basic skills such as belaying, becoming resilient, and being a team player. Every session presented something different—a challenge of endurance, patience, and solving problems. Although the activity made me step out of my comfort zone, it also made me feel accomplished and learn life lessons on perseverance, concentration, and development. I learned my strengths, exposed my weaknesses, and had a greater appreciation for the work and discipline it takes to climb through this experience.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
One of my strengths during the rock climbing activities was my grip and forearm strength along with my flexibility, which made me climb effectively. Rock climbing, though, was not only about climbing to the top, learning to belay became a significant focus, demanding not only physical strength but also intense concentration and a deep sense of responsibility for the climber’s safety. Being a belayer also taught me the value of attention to detail and trust in collaboration. Although I was great at climbing and gripping, I knew I had to improve my overall body strength inorder to jump further because at a few moments the rocks had a significant amount of distance in between of them which made things a little difficult. This experience revealed my strengths as well as my weaknesses.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Though the initial climbing was bearable, the actual challenge layed in challenging myself to do better. Every time, I tried to beat the previous time spent while climbing, which needed a number of attempts, better methods, and resilience. The exercise gave me patience and the importance of constant effort. Furthermore, the learning process to climb through different routes improved my problem-solving skills in me since every climb was a new challenge to overcome.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Getting up early for the rock climbing classes was a big challenge especially because of the winter season. But the moment I arrived at the climbing wall, the feeling of accomplishment and thrill got me going. Turning up for these classes on a regular basis taught for dedication, but the bonus of learning new techniques and getting to do them with my peers made it a worthwhile experience.
In conclusion, rock climbing was more than just a physical activity, it was a lesson in being focused and self confidence. This experience taught me to implement the SDG goal “Good Health and Wellbeing” because of promoting physical fitness, mental resilience and overall well-being which also led me to push past my limits and embrace the challenges that came with learning something new.
