Every year, my school gives students a chance to try out for the inter school football team and I got selected. Football has always been a passion of mine. I decided to include this experience as the activity component of my CAS journey because it helped me improve both physically and mentally. Throughout this journey, I identified my strengths and areas for growth, overcame challenges, and learned the importance of commitment and teamwork.
LO 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
While playing for the school team made me realize some of my strengths in football, like speed, agility, and teamwork. However, I also noticed areas where I needed to improve, such as endurance and strategic thinking during a match. Now that I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses, I would like to work on my weaknesses so that I can improve my performance and play football at a greater level. Endurance, if I had worked on this weakness before, I would have performed better at the tournament and it would have helped me reach my maximum potential.
LO 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Being part of the team was not easy. There were many intense matches which stressed out all of our team members. It was really challenging as we competed against other teams at day time, and the temperature was really high because of which I was losing all my energy because of low endurance, which is one of my biggest weaknesses. I have played similar tournaments before, but this time it was more challenging compared to previous years as this time I participated in the under-18 age category. I could not fully overcome this challenge, but I could work harder in training sessions to improve my endurance for better performance in the future
LO 4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Playing for the team required a high level of dedication. I had to attend regular PS sessions, maintain a fitness routine, and constantly work on my skills in the fitness sessions. Even when matches didn’t go as planned, I learned to stay focused and not give up till the match ends. My perseverance paid off when I saw my progress over time and contributed positively to the team’s performance. This experience showed me that commitment and hard work lead to growth and success.
To conclude, being part of the inter school football team was an unforgettable experience that helped me grow as both a player and an individual. I became more self-aware, and I learned the importance of commitment and perseverance. The learner profile I developed while completing this activity was communicators as I had communicated with my teammates about what else I can improve for a better performance. From my side, this activity was a success as we won the inter school competition as a team and did improve on our skills.
