Participating as a volunteer in Bal Mela was an incredibly rewarding experience. This event, organized by our school, aimed to bring happiness to children from underprivileged backgrounds through fun activities and games. As volunteers, we were divided into groups and assigned different games to conduct. My responsibility was to lead a football shooting game, ensuring that the children enjoyed themselves while also learning new skills.
LO 2:- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Organizing the football shooting game came with its own set of challenges, making the experience both exciting and demanding. Since many of the children had never played football before, I had to start by explaining the basic rules and demonstrating how to aim and shoot the ball. Some kids were enthusiastic and eager to participate, while others were hesitant or shy, unsure if they could play well.Through this experience, I developed better communication skills as I learned how to explain the game in a way that was simple and engaging. I also became more adaptable, adjusting my approach based on the children’s comfort levels and enthusiasm. This activity helped me understand the importance of patience, encouragement, and clear instructions when working with younger children.
LO 3:- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Bal Mela required careful planning, and as volunteers, we played an active role in making the event successful. We worked in teams to set up the activities, decide on the rules, and ensure a smooth flow. For the football shooting game, I had to arrange the setup, think of a fun way to explain the rules, and keep track of turns. Planning this activity made me realize the importance of organization and time management in executing an event efficiently.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
One of the best parts of Bal Mela was working together with my fellow volunteers. From setting up the games to guiding the children, we constantly supported each other to ensure everything ran smoothly. If one of us needed help managing a large group of kids, others quickly stepped in to assist. We encouraged the children to participate, cheered them on, and made sure they were having fun. The teamwork and coordination among us made the event lively and engaging, as we all shared the common goal of creating a joyful experience for the kids.
LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
As volunteers, we were mindful of our actions and choices throughout the event. We ensured that every child got a fair chance to participate, play, and enjoy the activities. It was important to be inclusive, patient, and encouraging, especially for children who were hesitant to join. This experience made me reflect on the ethical responsibility we have when working with others, especially young children who look up to us.
Conclusion
Bal Mela was a truly rewarding experience that brought joy to the children and helped me grow personally. It taught me valuable skills like teamwork, patience, and communication while showing me the impact of small efforts. Seeing the children’s happiness made all our efforts worthwhile, and this experience has inspired me to continue contributing to my community in meaningful ways.
