Play 2 beat Cancer PickleBall Tournament – Activity

Pickleball is one of my absolute favourite sports, and I’ve always enjoyed participating in them. It’s quick, relaxing, and keeps me active. I therefore knew I had to enter the “Play2BeatCancer” contest as soon as I learnt about it. This event is fun as well as significant since it combines sports to raise money for cancer patients. It was a great CAS experience to play in the event since I got to do what I love and help a worthy cause. I also gained a lot of knowledge about myself, collaboration, and the strength of uniting for a common cause.

LO 1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

Discovering my talents and imperfections was one of the most enjoyable aspects of the process. I became aware that even though I play pickleball rather well, I still have a lot of potential for growth. I learnt from the event that improving my backhand and court technique is necessary to become a great player. The first step to improving is realising what needs to be done, therefore I began to focus more on the little things in my game. Additionally, I observed excellent players and made an effort to pick up tips from them whenever I could.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

Although the tournament was tricky, I learnt new skills from it. In addition to hitting the ball, pickleball requires strategy and the ability to adjust to various opponents. I had to think quickly and modify my approach because I was playing against players with varied strategies. I had to constantly adjust my strategy because some players were more aggressive while others concentrated on making accurate shots. I also discovered how to maintain a positive attitude in the face of a near defeat. I developed persistence and a stronger mindset by concentrating on the next game rather than wallowing over losses.

LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

Pickleball taught me a lot about teamwork because it’s a team sport. My partner and I needed to support one another, communicate effectively, and make decisions fast. Effective coordination was essential particularly during frantic rallies where we had to have faith in one another’s tactics. Additionally, we improved at predicting one another’s shots and adjusting our approach. Beyond our personal performance, there was a strong sense of fellowship throughout the competition as everyone supported one another, offered guidance, and shared victories. It added to the enjoyment of the encounter.

LO 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.

I was reminded by this incident of the value of supporting initiatives that have an impact on people all around the world. Millions of people are affected by cancer, and fundraising activities like this one help change that. For me, taking part in “Play2BeatCancer” was a little way to help fight cancer. It also showed to me that when people band together, even something as basic as participating in sports can have a significant influence. The tournament was made much more important by the knowledge that the funds generated would benefit cancer patients.

Conclusion

All things taken into account, the “Play2BeatCancer” pickleball event offered an opportunity to develop while donating to a worthy cause, making it more than just a game. I was able to combine sports and changing the world in the ideal CAS experience. I learnt a lot from this experience, from enhancing my skills and teamwork to supporting a worthy cause. It demonstrated to me how sports can bring together people for a greater good, and I plan on continuing to utilise my passions to benefit others in the future.
