Navrang Raat (project)

Organizing Navrang Raat, a pre-Navratri event, was an incredible opportunity for me and my team of six. Navratri is a vibrant, nine-day Indian festival celebrating dance, music, and cultural art. Our pre-Navratri event aimed to capture that same joy and spirit, giving the community an early celebration. The event took three months of meticulous planning, during which we handled every aspect, from designing and printing passes to securing sponsors, booking the venue, managing decor, and ensuring the logistics for food, music, and rituals were in place. Taking on this responsibility was a huge challenge but also an exciting opportunity to put our skills to the test and make a meaningful impact.

Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrating That Challenges Have Been Undertaken and Developing New Skills

Managing an entire event with over 250 attendees was one of the most challenging experiences I’ve faced. The complexity of coordinating with sponsors, setting up decorations, and ensuring every detail aligned with our vision was overwhelming. Balancing the demands of event planning with our academic commitments added another layer of difficulty. Over the three months leading up to the event, we had to plan meetings to meet with sponsors, and oversee various preparations. This continuous engagement often conflicted with our studies, especially as our exams were also approaching Navratri. The need to balance both commitments tested our time management skills and added to the pressure.

To overcome these challenges, we maintained a detailed spreadsheet to regularly monitor our progress. We also coordinated schedules to manage school responsibilities alongside our event planning. This experience strengthened my time management, collaborative problem-solving, organizational skills and taught me the importance of finding balance under pressure. Taking on this level of responsibility helped me grow in adaptability and perseverance, skills I’m confident will serve me well in future projects and personal challenges.

Learning Outcome 3: Commitment to Organization and Developing Leadership Skills

I consider myself an organized person who prefers to list down tasks to ensure everything is completed efficiently. However, organizing such a large event required a level of coordination beyond anything I’d previously experienced. Arranging sponsors, coordinating with the DJ, organizing food, decorations, booking the venue, and arranging rituals for Navratri required intense planning and constant communication among all team members. The initiation phase was particularly difficult since each team member had their own vision for how the event should look. Regular meetings helped us refine our ideas, plan tasks clearly, and define the planning process. Through this experience, I developed leadership skills, especially in ensuring everyone was on track, regularly checking in, and providing reminders when needed. Now that we know each other’s strengths and work styles, planning future events together will be easier, and I feel much more prepared to lead similar projects.

Learning Outcome 4: Show Commitment and Perseverance in CAS Experiences

Staying motivated and committed to organizing Navrang Raat was essential. At times, our team felt discouraged, especially when sponsors declined our requests, or when we hit setbacks with our event arrangements. However, we reminded ourselves of the importance of the event and the impact it could have. Despite initial doubts, we persisted, working late hours and putting in extra effort to secure what was needed. This experience reinforced the value of perseverance and commitment, showing me that dedication is essential to bring any project to life, especially when it benefits the community.

Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrating the Skills and Recognizing the Benefits of Working Collaboratively

Collaboration was both a challenge and a highlight of organizing this event. Initially, it was difficult to work together, as each team member had different perspectives on how the event should be executed. However, through open communication and regular meetings, we found common ground and established clear roles. Dividing responsibilities allowed us to work more efficiently and reduced misunderstandings. Working collaboratively also underscored the importance of teamwork and leadership, as every member’s effort contributed to the event’s success. This experience taught me the significance of balancing individual input with group consensus, and how strong teamwork can make even the most complex tasks manageable.

Learning Outcome 6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance

After the event, we generated a profit of 80,000 rupees, which we decided to donate to an organization called “Enrichmnt;”. “Enrichmnt;” focuses on providing quality education to underprivileged students, helping to bridge the gap in educational access and equality. By donating our earnings, we contributed to a global issue of educational inequality, supporting the idea that quality education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of race, religion, or socioeconomic status. This experience connected me with a larger global cause and reinforced the impact that even local events can have in addressing important global challenges.

Organizing Navrang Raat was an immensely challenging yet rewarding experience. As a team of young students, we faced numerous difficulties, from handling the competition of similar pre-Navratri events to dealing with internal and external challenges in executing our plans. Despite these hurdles, the event was a huge success, with over 250 attendees enjoying a night filled with dance, music, art, and cultural festivities. This project was not only an opportunity for fun and community engagement but also a significant learning experience that gave us insight into real-world event planning. The skills I developed leadership, organization, communication, and resilience will be invaluable for future endeavors. The donation to Enrichment was a fitting end to this journey, allowing us to use the event’s success to make a difference. This experience has inspired me to continue finding ways to combine creativity and community impact in future projects.
