Being part of FSMUN 11.0 was one of the greatest decision I would have ever made. I was part of the UNODC committee representing China. This was my 2nd ever MUN which I was attending and now I was representing a superpower. Throughout the FSMUN, I have learned multiple things not just from the fellow delegates, but as well as from the Executive Board (the Chair and the Vice Chair).

Learning Outcome 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
During and before the conference, I was able to find out my weakness which was my under confidence. Since this was my just 2nd MUN experience and I was representing a superpower, I was scared if I will be able to do good or no. But as the committee session started and moved forward, I got to know about how I can improve myself which overall led me to getting more and more confident. This was important since if I would have been under confident throughout the MUN, delegates of other countries would have been easily been able to target me and I would have been able to do nothing, so identifying this weakness and working upon it was really required.
Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
There were many challenges that I was required to encounter during the FSMUN. For instance, one of the major challenge that I faced was the time of crisis. This was the first time I was facing a crisis and I was required to think and act fast before all the accusations arrived on me. This overall improved my critical thinking skills and it was a crazy experience. Not just crisis, there were multiple other scenarios where I faced challenges such as when creating a draft resolution or when talking about on a motion, there were challenges every bit of the way which I encountered. I failed a few but this allowed me to realize and improve upon my skills.
Learning Outcome 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Before attending a MUN, you need to do a lot of prior research regarding your committee, your delegates and your own country itself. Keeping this in mind, I was required to do a lot of research for China and it’s stance on UNODC. I was required to make bloc’s and decide my allies, my enemies, who I need to target and many more. And since I was the delegate of China, I decided to take the lead and form allies. It took me 2 weeks of planning and preparation to be finally ready for the FSMUN 11.0.

Learning Outcome 4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
A MUN lasts a whole day for 2 days starting at 7 in the morning and ending at 8 at the night. Meaning it could get really tiring and exhausting. Plus, there are a total of 6 committee session each of 2 hours. All these sometimes made me tired and I felt like sleeping out. But this was not possible. Since being the delegate of a superpower, it was my job to always stay alert and protect my country and help my allies. This required a lot of commitment and perseverance. Even though I didn’t win any award, but it made me learn multiple new things which would help me out in the future MUN which I may attend.
Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Teamwork is a major concept whose skills are needed to be applied in a MUN. Before even the MUN starts, you need to create a bloc, form alliance, work with your allies, plan all the motion, decide whom you are going to target and many more things are required to be decided before even the MUN starts. Furthermore, after the MUN had begun, you need to continuously collaborate with your allies and discuss who is going to raise motion. All in all, in a MUN, when working in a team, we get insights and inputs from other delegates and get variety of ideas for things such as motion, draft resolution etc which can be implied and target our enemies and even influence some neutral states.
Learning Outcome 6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
Each committee in MUN focuses on some sort of global issue. In this case, the committee of UNODC was focusing on the issue of increased mobilization of drugs and the resulted crimes. Debating and discussing on this topic made me realize how big of a issue this is. From all the statistics, facts and figures which were put out on the table were insane. I would have never imagined in my life how big of a issue drugs and crimes is in today’s world. All this made me staying involved on this issue till date where I everyday look at news regarding drugs to see the current position of this issue.
Learning Outcome 7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
There were multiple ethical concerns which arrived when being the delegate of China. There were some rules and regulations of China as well as some practices which China follows which raised ethical concerns in the committee. But since I was the delegate and personal opinions do not matter, I was required to take the stance of those things even when they were ethically wrong. Furthermore, there were multiple things which I was needed to keep in mind such as respecting others, respecting the sovereignty of other countries while cooperating with them and overall, being honest and ethical.
To conclude, FSMUN 11.0 taught me various different things, it made me go out of my comfort zone and grow as a person. Throughout the FSMUN 11.0, I was able to enhance multiple skills such as thinking skills, research skills and communication skills which allowed me to grow and learn as a person. All the things that I learned will surely help me in future and allow me to grow and learn more.
