For this enrichment experience, I worked with students who want to study but come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds and do not have access to proper academic support. My role was to help them understand their subjects better by explaining concepts, solving doubts, and guiding them through their schoolwork. Many of these students struggle because they cannot afford tuition or extra learning materials, so enrichment sessions provided them with support they usually do not receive. Through regular interactions, I helped them improve their confidence, build better study habits, and stay motivated in their education. This experience allowed me to contribute to their academic growth while developing my own communication, leadership, and empathy skills.
LO2 – Demonstrate challenges undertaken and skills developed:
During the enrichment experience, I faced several meaningful challenges. One major challenge was understanding the different learning levels of each student and adjusting my teaching style accordingly. Some students needed more time, explanation, and patience because they did not have strong academic foundations. Another challenge was keeping them motivated, especially since many of them struggled with confidence. Balancing tutoring with my own schoolwork also required discipline and time management. Through these challenges, I developed key skills like patience, communication, adaptability, and leadership. I also improved my ability to explain concepts clearly and support students emotionally and academically.
LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
For this enrichment activity, I took initiative in planning how I would help the students. I identified the subjects they needed the most support in, prepared simple notes and examples they could understand, and organised sessions based on their availability. I also planned how to teach each topic step-by-step so they would not feel overwhelmed. This required scheduling, resource preparation, and clear goal-setting. This experience taught me how to plan structured learning support, organise materials in advance, and manage a consistent tutoring routine that genuinely helps the students.

LO5 – Demonstrate collaborative skills:
Even though I was helping the students individually, collaboration played a big role in this experience. I worked with teachers, peers, and sometimes even the students’ families to understand what support was needed. I also collaborated with other volunteers to divide responsibilities and share resources. Working together allowed us to reach more students and make the sessions more effective. This experience strengthened my teamwork, communication, and coordination skills. I learned that helping others becomes more impactful when people work together toward a common goal.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance:
The enrichment experience directly connects to the global issue of educational inequality, which affects millions of children worldwide. Many students want to study but lack the financial means to access tutors, proper learning materials, or academic support. By providing free tutoring, I contributed to addressing this issue at a local level while supporting global goals like SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. This experience helped me understand that education is a basic right, not a privilege, and that contributing even in small ways can create long-term impact on students’ futures.
LO7 – Recognize and consider ethics of choices and actions:
Ethical responsibility was an important part of this enrichment experience. I had to ensure I treated every student equally, respected their backgrounds, and supported them without judgment. It was important to make them feel valued and motivated, not embarrassed about needing help. I also made sure that the teaching methods, language, and actions were respectful and appropriate. This experience taught me how service requires empathy, confidentiality, honesty, and fairness. I learned that ethical actions build trust and allow students to feel safe, encouraged, and confident in their learning environment.
