Basketball Fundraising Tournament – CAS Project

What the Experience was:- In the following experience, we organised a fundraising basketball tournament in our home court, we organised the tournament wherein 4 teams participated, we charged each team 500 Rs. as the entry fee. We collected a total of 2000 Rs. in total and then we donated it to the Miyawaki foundation via the help of the school. The Miyawaki foundation is an organisation which works on environmental sustainability projects, by donating money to this organisation we were able to in a way contribute to the betterment of the environment by donating to an organisation that works for the betterment of the environment.

Connection to SDG :- This experience aligns with SDG 11 as we supported environmental sustainability through our fundraising initiative. By donating the collected amount to the Miyawaki Foundation, we contributed to urban afforestation and greener community spaces. This allowed us to play a small but meaningful role in promoting more sustainable and resilient cities.

Learning Outcome 3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Planning this tournament required a structured approach from the very beginning. We first discussed how the event would function, including team invitations, scheduling matches, budgeting materials, and assigning roles. Creating a detailed timeline helped us coordinate tasks such as preparing the court, arranging referees, and promoting the event to ensure maximum participation. We also handled the financial planning aspect, deciding the entry fee and determining how the collected amount would be managed and donated. This experience improved my ability to design and organize events with clear goals and responsibilities. Overall, the planning phase strengthened my problem-solving and leadership skills significantly.


Learning Outcome 4 – Show commitment and perseverance in a CAS experience

Throughout this experience, I remained committed to my responsibilities despite time constraints and academic workload. From coordinating team registrations to ensuring the court and equipment were ready on the event day, I consistently invested effort to keep the event on track. There were moments when arranging logistics became challenging, but staying persistent helped resolve issues effectively. I attended all group meetings and contributed actively to discussions and decision-making. My dedication to seeing the project through from planning to the final donation showed me the importance of perseverance in achieving meaningful outcomes. This commitment ensured the success of the fundraising event and strengthened my personal discipline.

Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate the skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Collaboration was essential for the success of this tournament, as the event involved multiple interconnected tasks. Working with my peers allowed us to divide responsibilities effectively some managed team coordination, others handled court preparation, while some documented finances and communicated with the school. This experience taught me the value of listening to others, respecting diverse ideas, and combining strengths to achieve a shared goal. Our teamwork made the entire process smoother and more efficient than if we had worked individually. I realized that the fundraising tournament’s success was a result of collective effort, reinforcing how collaboration enhances both productivity and creativity.
