Being a member of the school’s Yearbook Committee was one of the most valuable CAS experiences I’ve had. It was a combination of creativity, teamwork, and accountability, with an opportunity to deeply examine my strengths and weaknesses. Designing, planning, and producing the final project was not only gratifying, but it was also an incredible learning experience that tied into all seven CAS learning outcomes.

LO1 – Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
At the beginning of the project, I utilised my deisgn skills, understnading how you could try out different page arrangements, fonts, and themes that embraced the spirit of our school. I knew I also needed to work on my organizational and delegation skills. Working with deadlines in addition to studies helped me learn to balance tasks and communicate better with team members.
LO2 – Challenging and Pioneering New Skills
This project forced me out of my comfort zone. Tight deadlines, last-minute revisions, and the pressure of applying design consistency to dozens of pages demanded flexibility and tolerance. I sharpened my technical skills in design software and learned to think critically about aesthetics, while operating under time pressure.
LO3 – Starting and Organizing a CAS Experience
Being a member of the editorial board, I played an active part in proposing and organizing multiple phases of the yearbook. From envisioning the theme of “iOS” to organizing task timelines and handling coordination among writers, photographers, and designers, I worked hands-on on creative project management. This built my planning and foresight abilities, particularly in juggling creativity with logistics.
LO4 – Demonstrating Perseverance and Commitment
Throughout the process, determination was needed. There were times when the workload was too much particularly when revisions of the design coincided with scholastic evaluations but my desire to get the yearbook done sustained me even though it was difficult balancing it with deadlines and such from the school itself.
LO5 – Exhibiting Skills and Values of Working Together
The project highlighted the value of teamwork. Collaborating with a group of peers who are not only different but also diversified in strengths, called for active listening, constructive criticism, and flexibility. I developed the ability to value diverse opinions and communicate respectfully even during conflicts in creative ideas. Through collaboration, we produced a cohesive and visually appealing end product that resulted from our collective vision.
LO6 – Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
As the yearbook commemorated our school’s success, it also sought to portray inclusivity, diversity, and student well-being principles that transcend our local environment. We made sure to cover every student and group equally and purposefully, building an appreciation of equality and awareness of cultural diversity, principles that are universally relevant to education and community development.
LO7 – Identifying and Taking into Account the Ethics of Actions and Decisions
Ethical decision-making remained an integral part of the process. We made sure that all photographs and personal references were used with permission, captions were respectful, and each student’s representation was fair. This experience made me realize more deeply the responsibility of creative representation and the value of integrity in communication.
Conclusion
The yearbook project taught me so much more than design: leadership, empathy, and responsibility. Every choice, from page layout to tone of the editorials, took purpose and collaboration. In the end, the project was not just a chronicle of the school year but a story of growth and collaboration, mirroring the essence of CAS.
