The Unsaid – A Teen Mental Health Awareness Website (CAS Project)

Experience Description:

As part of my CAS project, I co-created “The Unsaid,” a website dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges faced by teenagers today, including body image issues, anxiety, stress, depression, peer pressure, and self-esteem struggles. The platform was designed to provide reliable information, coping strategies, and stories to help teens feel supported and understood.

The goal of the project was not only to spread awareness but also to create a safe digital space where individuals could relate to shared experiences and access helpful resources. The project required extensive research, content creation, design work, and collaboration to make the website both informative and engaging.

Learning Outcomes Achieved

LO1: Identifying Own Strengths and Developing Areas for Growth

This project allowed me to recognise my strengths in writing, digital content creation, and creativity. I contributed significantly to designing the website layout and crafting impactful articles. However, I also realised I needed to improve my time management and technical skills to ensure smooth execution. Working on this project helped me grow by learning website-building tools and understanding how to make content accessible and relatable.

LO2: Demonstrating That Challenges Have Been Undertaken and New Skills Developed

Creating an informative and interactive website came with several challenges. We had to:

  • Research sensitive topics like depression and anxiety carefully
  • Ensure information was accurate and responsible
  • Learn web development and design basics
  • Communicate messages in a teen-friendly and empathetic way

Through this, I developed new technical skills in website creation, improved my research abilities, and learned how to write sensitively about mental health.

LO3: Initiating and Planning a CAS Experience

Since this was a long-term project, effective planning was essential. As a team, we:

  • Divided roles between content writing, design, and technical setup
  • Created a content calendar to manage deadlines
  • Brainstormed key topics relevant to teenagers
  • Designed the website layout to make it engaging and user-friendly

This experience taught me the importance of structured planning and setting realistic goals to successfully execute a large-scale project.

LO4: Showing Commitment and Perseverance

The project required consistent dedication over several weeks. From researching sensitive topics to writing detailed articles and testing the website, there were times when it felt overwhelming. However, our commitment to the cause kept us motivated. Each setback, whether technical glitches or delays in content, taught me resilience and the value of staying persistent to achieve meaningful results.

LO5: Demonstrating Skills and Recognizing the Benefits of Working Collaboratively

This project was a team effort. Each member brought unique strengths, and we learned to communicate effectively, divide responsibilities, and support one another. Collaboration allowed us to create richer content and solve problems faster. By sharing feedback and brainstorming ideas together, we were able to produce a website that was more impactful than any of us could have achieved individually.

LO6: Engaging With Issues of Global Significance

Mental health challenges among teenagers are a global issue. By creating “The Unsaid,” we aimed to contribute to a larger conversation surrounding mental well-being and emotional awareness. Providing resources, stories, and coping strategies helped empower teenagers to seek support and prioritise self-care. This project gave me a deeper understanding of how digital platforms can make a positive difference in tackling issues that affect people worldwide.

LO7: Recognizing and Considering the Ethics of Choices and Actions

Since the website deals with sensitive topics like anxiety, depression, and body image, we had to be extremely mindful and ethical in our approach. We ensured:

  • All information came from credible sources
  • We avoided triggering language and promoted responsible messaging
  • We emphasized encouraging, supportive tones rather than creating fear
  • We included disclaimer notes and helpline resources for anyone needing professional help

This made me realize how content creation carries ethical responsibility, especially when addressing vulnerable audiences.

Final Reflection:

Working on “The Unsaid” was one of the most transformative CAS projects I’ve undertaken. It allowed me to combine creativity, research, and teamwork to create a platform that addresses real issues affecting teenagers today. I learned technical skills, improved my communication, and gained a deeper understanding of mental health and empathy.

This project showed me the power of awareness — that even a small initiative, when done thoughtfully, can positively impact others. Beyond just creating a website, I grew as a responsible global citizen who understands the importance of using technology to educate, empower, and connect people.
