As part of the Dance Educational Program (DEP) in AS, I had the opportunity to participate in an inter-school competition called Kalakriti. This experience was both exciting and challenging, as it pushed me to take the choreography we had been practicing in school and present it confidently on a larger platform. Performing at this level was not only about showcasing dance but also about growth, teamwork, and perseverance.
LO2:Taking on Challenges and Developing Skills
Competing in Kalakriti was a challenge that required me to step outside my comfort zone. While learning choreography in class was one thing, performing it in front of a large audience and against other schools demanded a higher level of confidence and precision. Preparing for the competition allowed me to develop stage presence, refine my dance techniques, and handle the pressure of a competitive environment.
LO3:Initiating and Planning
Participation in Kalakriti also required careful planning and preparation. As a group, we had to polish our choreography, plan practice sessions, and ensure that our performance was stage-ready. Personally, I had to plan my time effectively to balance academics with rehearsals. Initiating this balance and making a conscious choice to dedicate time and effort towards both academics and dance helped me grow as a more disciplined individual.
LO5:Collaboration and Teamwork
Dance is inherently collaborative, and Kalakriti highlighted that even more. Working as a team meant synchronizing our movements, supporting each other during practice, and motivating one another when routines felt exhausting. We also learned to listen to feedback from our instructor and incorporate it collectively to strengthen our performance. This collaboration taught me the importance of unity, patience, and trust in group efforts.
