This year, I had the chance to be part of FS Got Talent as a member of the event decor team. What might seem like a simple task of arranging decorations turned out to be a meaningful, hands on learning experience that challenged me to be creative, collaborative, and responsible.
My role included designing, planning, and setting up decorations across three different venues, each with its own unique theme. It wasn’t just about putting up banners or adding color it was about transforming spaces into vibrant settings that captured the spirit of the event, engaged the audience, and gave performers a stage to be proud of. Working on multiple venues required me to brainstorm ideas, adapt designs to different spaces, and pay attention to every detail to create an inviting and lively atmosphere.
Since I enjoy art, design, and creative problem-solving, this opportunity allowed me to apply my interests in a practical context. It wasn’t only about personal creativity but also about teamwork. Every member of the decor team contributed their own ideas, and together we shaped them into a collective vision. Sometimes this meant letting go of my own preferences and appreciating other’s input, which ultimately made the final result stronger and more dynamic.
The journey wasn’t without its challenges. Time pressure, limited resources, and high expectations meant I had to think quickly, adjust plans, and stay resilient. Whenever things didn’t work out as expected, I learned the value of adaptability and problem-solving under stress.
Through this process, I realized my strengths in creativity and design, while also developing new abilities in planning, organization, and teamwork. Balancing this responsibility alongside academics pushed me to improve my time management and ensure both commitments were handled effectively.
LO2: Challenges Undertaken
Working on the decor for FS Got Talent meant managing time limits, limited materials, and the pressure to meet expectations. These challenges taught me resilience, adaptability, and problem solving.
LO3: Initiation and Planning
I took part in brainstorming, designing, and collaborating with my peers to plan the decor. This stage taught me how to take initiative, organize tasks, and set priorities in a team environment.
LO4: Perseverance and Commitment
Preparing the decor required long hours and consistent effort until the event was completed. Staying dedicated despite obstacles showed my perseverance and commitment.
LO5: Collaboration Skills
Working closely with peers emphasized the importance of teamwork and communication. By combining different perspectives, I saw how collaboration creates outcomes that no one person could achieve alone.
LO7: Ethical Choices
When deciding on designs and materials, I reflected on the ethics of my choices, considering sustainability, waste reduction, and responsible use of resources.
In the end, seeing the venues come alive with energy and appreciation from the performers and audience was truly rewarding. It wasn’t only about appearance it was about building a sense of excitement and unity.
This CAS experience reminded me that creativity is most impactful when it is shared, purposeful, and sustainable. It gave me lessons in resilience, collaboration, and responsibility that extend well beyond event decor and will benefit me in future endeavors both inside and outside the classroom.
