Karuna Club

Being a part of the Karuna Club has been one of the most meaningful service experiences I have engaged in during my CAS journey. The club focuses on looking after homeless dogs by providing them with food, shelter, and vaccinations. We raise funds through bake sales and other initiatives, which are then used to support these animals. Through my involvement, I have not only contributed to a cause that matters deeply to me but also grown as a more caring and responsible individual.

This project required constant teamwork. From planning bake sales, managing resources, and coordinating vaccination drives, every step demanded strong collaboration. Working alongside other members of the club allowed me to understand the importance of shared responsibility and mutual support. I was able to demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively (LO5), as the success of our initiatives depended on everyone contributing in their unique way.

Through Karuna Club, I also engaged with an issue of global significance (LO6). Animal welfare, especially the problem of malnourishment and lack of shelter for street dogs, is not just a local concern but a worldwide one. By actively participating in feeding drives and organizing medical care, I became more aware of how such issues are interconnected with larger societal values like compassion, responsibility, and sustainable co-existence with animals.

An equally important aspect of this experience was making ethical choices. Every decision—whether it was how funds should be spent, what food should be provided, or how to manage vaccination schedules—was guided by fairness and responsibility toward the animals’ well-being. This allowed me to recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions (LO7) and taught me to prioritize the greater good over convenience.

Through this experience, I developed the learner profile attribute of being caring. Seeing the struggles of street dogs firsthand made me more empathetic toward living beings who cannot speak for themselves. The Karuna Club has taught me the value of compassion, and it has inspired me to do more for both animals and people around me who may be struggling in different ways. This growth has shaped me into a more thoughtful person, determined to make a positive difference wherever possible.

Overall, my participation in Karuna Club has been a truly rewarding CAS service experience that strengthened my values, broadened my perspective, and deepened my sense of responsibility toward society.
