Play2Beat Cancer Pickleball Tournament

Over the past four months, I embarked on a journey that not only challenged me but also allowed me to grow as an individual while contributing to a cause close to my heart. As the Finance Head of the organizing committee, I played a key role in planning and executing the Play2Beat Cancer Pickleball Tournament, which aimed to combine the joy of sports with social responsibility. The initiative supported our broader vision of hosting sports tournaments to raise funds for cancer hospitals and patients in need.

My role came with significant responsibilities—overseeing budgeting, managing sponsorships, and ensuring transparent handling of funds. While this required precision and discipline, it also pushed me beyond my comfort zone. I had to negotiate with sponsors, allocate funds effectively, and make financial decisions that would directly affect the success of the event. Ultimately, the tournament was a great success, with 60 participants and two sponsorships secured, generating meaningful contributions for Mahavir Cancer Hospital.

LO6: Engagement With Issues of Global Significance

Cancer remains one of the most pressing global health challenges, impacting millions of lives every year. By dedicating the proceeds of the tournament to Mahavir Cancer Hospital, our initiative contributed in a small yet significant way to this larger global issue. The tournament was not just about raising money but also about spreading awareness of the importance of health and preventive care. Aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, our event highlighted how even localized actions can contribute to addressing global challenges. Additionally, by encouraging participation in sports, we also promoted physical fitness, which plays an important role in preventing lifestyle-related diseases.

LO7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions

As Finance Head, I had to ensure that all financial matters were handled transparently and ethically. Every sponsorship and donation was carefully recorded, and funds were allocated responsibly to guarantee they served the intended purpose. Beyond finances, ethical considerations extended to fair play during matches and unbiased treatment of all participants. Upholding integrity was crucial—not only in managing money but also in maintaining the credibility of the tournament as a whole. This experience reinforced for me the importance of ethics in leadership and decision-making, showing how accountability and fairness build trust within a community.

Conclusion

Being part of the organizing committee as Finance Head was both challenging and rewarding. This experience allowed me to contribute to a meaningful cause while developing skills in financial management, ethical decision-making, and social responsibility. Above all, it showed me how sports can be a powerful platform to engage with global issues and create lasting impact.
