The Global Odyssey 5.0 event was an opportunity to integrate subject learning with practical application. I participated in the food category, where my team and I set up a stall selling homemade food items. This opportunity enabled me to apply theoretical knowledge to a real-world marketplace while also developing critical entrepreneurial and interpersonal skills.
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
One of the key challenges I faced was management and predicting the demand. Initially, we underestimated how quickly certain food items would sell, leading to stock shortages early on. On the other hand, coordinating as a team became difficult especially at times when the stall got crowded. However, we quickly divided roles to ensure efficiency. This required me to improve my multitasking and time-management skills while still engaging politely with customers.
LO 4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Preparing for the stall required significant commitment even before the event. From finalizing food items and arranging raw materials to designing our stall’s setup, the process required consistent effort. During the event itself, managing and coordinating became difficult . However, we as a team communicated and developed innovative strategies to ensure we were working productively. Staying focused and committed despite difficulties helped us successfully run our stall throughout the event.
LO 5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
This CAS experience was heavily reliant on teamwork. Dividing responsibilities such as cooking, handling sales, and managing money required coordination. While differing opinions occasionally caused confusion, we managed to resolve conflicts through open discussion. Each team member brought unique strengths whether in cooking, designing posters, or handling customers that collectively contributed to our success. By relying on one another, we managed to maximize efficiency and ensure smooth operations at our stall.
LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
While running the food stall at Global Odyssey, I became aware of the ethical responsibilities involved in selling to others. We had to ensure that the food was hygienically prepared and safe for consumption, which required careful handling and storage of ingredients. Additionally, We tried to minimize food wastage by donating leftover items to the people in need rather than discarding them. These decisions highlighted how business choices, even in a school event, have ethical implications for health and sustainability.
Participating in Global Odyssey was an enriching and practical experience that allowed me to combine creativity with real-world business skills. Beyond applying classroom knowledge of demand and pricing, I also developed personal qualities such as adaptability, resilience, and teamwork. The event gave me confidence in my ability to manage challenges under pressure and highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving collective goals. It was not only a valuable learning experience but also an enjoyable opportunity to connect with peers and the school community.
