Rock Climbing (Activity)

For my CAS Activity experience, I participated in rock climbing and joined few sessions to challenge myself physically and mentally. I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something adventurous while improving my endurance and focus. This activity helped me discover my strengths, overcome fears, and build perseverance through consistent effort.

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through rock climbing, I was able to identify both my strengths and areas for improvement. I realized that I have strong focus and patience, which helped me stay calm and strategic while climbing. However, I also recognized that my grip strength and endurance needed improvement, as they limited how far I could climb. Becoming aware of these weaknesses motivated me to work on my physical fitness and consistency. Understanding my strengths and weaknesses allowed me to set clearer goals and track my progress each session. It also made me more self- aware and helped me appreciate that growth comes gradually through consistency and practice.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Rock climbing was physically and mentally challenging. Even though it was my second time but it was after a very long time, I found it difficult to maintain grip strength and balance while climbing higher. Each attempt tested my endurance and focus. I hadn’t reached the top, but in my third session, I was proud to climb one step higher than before. That small improvement reflected significant progress for me. This activity helped me develop patience, and determination, as well as the ability to stay calm under pressure. Overcoming fear gave me confidence to try more adventurous activities in the future. I learned that every challenge, even if not fully overcome, helps build strength and courage.

O4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience

Rock climbing required consistent effort and focus across multiple sessions. It wasn’t easy to stay motivated when my hands hurt or when I couldn’t reach the top, but I reminded myself that improvement takes time. Showing perseverance by returning each session helped me realize the value of steady progress. Commitment to completing the activity, even when it felt physically draining, made me more disciplined and mentally strong. I understood that persistence is not only about success, but about refusing to give up when things get tough. Also, waking up early before my regular school time, is hard for me but a commitment towards by CAS experience motivated me to wake up and show up for all 4 sessions.

Conclusion and Learner Attributes

This experience helped me grow as a Risk taker by stepping out of my comfort zone and challenging my physical limits. It also made me more Reflective, as I learned to build up my performance and recognize the importance of patience and steady progress. Rock climbing taught me that success is not just about reaching the top, but about the courage to keep climbing.
