One Day CAS Trip – Trek To Bhavarkada Waterfalls (Activity)

The trek to Bhavarkada Waterfalls, turned out to be much more demanding than we had expected. The path to the waterfall was steep and rugged, requiring physical endurance and mental resilience. At many points, we had to support each other, offering hands, encouragement, and advice to keep moving forward. This collaborative spirit made the experience memorable and underscored the importance of teamwork.

For me personally, the biggest challenge was overcoming my fear of heights. There were several parts of the trail where we had to climb steep slopes with deep valleys alongside. I was initially hesitant, but with my peers’ support and my own determination, I managed to push through. By the end of the trek, I felt a strong sense of accomplishment—not just for reaching the destination, but for facing and overcoming a personal fear.

LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

During the trek, I was able to recognize some of my strengths as well as areas where I need to grow. I realized that resilience and a positive mindset are among my strong points, as I managed to keep moving forward despite the steep terrain and the physical exhaustion. I also showed situational awareness by carefully watching my footing and choosing safer paths, which helped me avoid accidents. At the same time, I identified areas for growth such as improving my stamina and leg strength so that I can handle long treks with more ease in the future. I also want to develop more confidence in handling heights, as this was a challenge for me, and gradually build my technical trekking skills such as balance, scrambling, and navigation.

LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

This trek was full of challenges that pushed me outside my comfort zone. The steep three-hour climb tested my physical endurance, and the fear of heights made certain parts of the journey mentally demanding. However, through this experience, I developed new skills such as pacing myself to conserve energy, using breathing techniques to stay calm, and choosing better routes on difficult terrain. I also learned to manage my fear of heights by focusing on the path ahead and trusting the support of my peers. These challenges helped me grow more confident in handling both physical and mental obstacles in outdoor environments.

LO 4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

The trek required perseverance from start to finish, as it was physically exhausting and mentally draining at times. Despite moments when I felt tired or hesitant, I stayed committed to completing the climb without giving up. I kept reminding myself of the goal and motivated myself to continue. I also made sure to support my peers by checking in on them and helping where I could, even when I felt fatigued myself. This perseverance showed me that dedication and consistency are key to overcoming challenges, and that pushing through difficulties leads to a sense of pride and accomplishment.

LO 5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Collaboration was an essential part of this trek, and working with my peers made the journey much safer and more enjoyable. We supported each other by lending a hand on steep sections, sharing water and snacks, and encouraging one another when the climb became tiring. Clear communication and teamwork allowed us to overcome obstacles more efficiently, as we took turns leading and kept the pace suitable for everyone. This experience highlighted the benefits of collaboration, showing me how group effort not only improves safety and efficiency but also strengthens trust and makes challenging experiences more rewarding.

Overall, the Bhavarkada Waterfalls trek was a challenging yet rewarding CAS experience that helped me grow both personally and collaboratively. I identified strengths like resilience and awareness, but also saw areas I can improve such as endurance and managing fear of heights. The trek allowed me to develop new skills in pacing, balance, and emotional regulation, while also teaching me the value of perseverance and group support. Most importantly, I learned that working together transforms difficult experiences into meaningful achievements, and this gave me both confidence and motivation to take on similar challenges in the future.
