Rural Immersion: Mokhamal Dang

LO1 : Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

We did Warli art for two days for a few hours, it was a memorable and special experience. We were divided into 6 groups and we painted on someone’s house. On the first day I was a little nervous because it was someone’s house and there was a pressure that I needed to perform nicely by doing a satisfactory painting. So on the first day I tried my best and it turned out beautiful. During the time I was painting I got to know my strength and areas for growth. For example, first I drew the palm tree with the yellow chalk then started the painting but I realised that I could direct paint without drawing it first, also it was the chalk color that was affecting the painting. On the second day I was more confident but I lacked details and I was making tiny errors but my peers cheered me up and said it is an interesting task let’s do it with fun. Afterwards I focused on more enjoying rather than looking at the mistake and that is the reason our artwork has become so beautiful and expressive.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experience
For the trip we were divided into 4 batches according to the class but I was separated from my friends as they were in different batches. This was the reason I needed to show commitment as my motivation was lost. Therefore I made a commitment to participate in the experiences from the heart and cherish each moment. Also I kept diverting my mind by repeatedly saying that this moment will not come again and instead of being sad I rather enjoy it and perform the activities I won’t be able to do on a daily basis

LO5 :Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

As a batch we made an initiative for giving the children from the school kites, lipsticks and nail polish also from school we gave them books. The first time when we met the children over there we got to know that the girls really liked dressing up and having make up hence we came up with an idea of gifting it. The ashram we visited there as a batch all of us collaboratively cooked food for the children by taking help from the workers over there. First we went to the market and bought vegetables together, everyone was assigned responsibility. My group was assigned to buy the masalas for the food. Afterwards we went there and cooked food and also served them. This is how we used social, organisation and collaboration skills throughout the trip.

LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

In this educational trip we learnt a lot by observing and listening to the hospital, child malnutrition treatment center, banking system, milk process for further production and finally the fishing system. The hospital in Dang we acknowledge that for some people it’s very far to come which is a problem for emergency situation, they have equipments and availability. Mostly the patients are where an animal has bitten them but they don’t have enough certified doctors to treat them. Moreover in the malnutrition treatment centre  we got to know an interesting fact that affects the baby and the mother. We learnt in the milk factory that farmers collect milk and give it to mid-man and then it is transported here. Afterwards they freeze the milk and assess its quality; if it is inadequate it’s discarded in nature. Finally from here it goes for further processing and then the milk gets produced in the market. Moving forward we also learnt how dang people catch fishes and sell them to the market. There is a cylindrical shape tool with the help of which they catch the fishes by keeping it overnight. Lastly, we learnt the banking system of dang as it’s a village.
