Cross-country running is a test of both physical endurance and mental resilience. When I first participated in the cross country in grade 9 I took almost 30 mins to finish the race but there was a fire inside which got lit and after that, I participated in the following years. This year I ran 3 times for 3km but learned that I was not ready in the first race because I was not prepared for the race due to low endurance. By the time of the 3rd race, I was able to make strategies for breathing and the way I should run so that I could save energy and be able to run longer distances in a shorter time. That’s how I transformed my approach throughout 3 races.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
When I first joined cross-country running in grade 9, I realized that while I had the motivation to compete, my physical endurance was lacking. My first race took almost 30 minutes to complete, and I struggled to keep up. However, despite the initial difficulty, there was a fire inside me that lit up, pushing me to return year after year. I recognized that my area for growth was building physical endurance. This became a focus in subsequent races, as I began to improve my stamina and develop a strategy for how I could better conserve energy and increase my pace over longer distances
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
The first few races were tough, and my lack of preparation and endurance became apparent. I struggled with pacing, and my energy levels dropped significantly by the halfway point. After the first race, I knew I had to take a more strategic approach to cross-country. I undertook the challenge of improving my physical endurance and understanding the techniques of pacing.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
Through these experiences, I demonstrated perseverance and commitment by continuing to challenge myself, despite initial setbacks. I chose to learn from my mistakes and adapt rather than giving up. Each race became an opportunity for me to refine my strategy and to keep pushing forward, even when I felt physically exhausted.
In conclusion, my experience with cross-country running has been a transformative journey that has allowed me to identify my strengths and areas for growth, overcome challenges, and demonstrate perseverance. From struggling in my first race to developing strategies that improved my performance, each race became an opportunity to learn and grow. I not only enhanced my physical endurance and mental resilience, but I also learned the importance of commitment and preparation in achieving success. This experience has not only shaped my approach to running but has also taught me valuable life lessons in persistence, adaptability, and the power of self-improvement.
