As part of the Creativity strand in CAS, I participated in my school’s MUN as a delegate in a unique IPL (Indian Premier League) committee simulation. The format was creatively designed to resemble real-world auctions and negotiations within the cricketing world. This group task involved research, strategic thinking, collaboration, and public speaking. A mock auction was held during the session where each delegate represented a franchise and had to bid for players based on budget constraints and team requirements.=
LO 1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
Through this MUN experience, I recognized my strength in analytical thinking and quick decision-making, which helped me during the auction process. However, I also noticed that I needed to improve my public speaking confidence and spontaneous argumentation during heated discussions. The experience helped me reflect on how I perform under pressure and what I can do to become a more effective communicator in group discussions.
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Participating in the IPL MUN committee was a completely new and challenging format for me. Unlike traditional MUNs, it involved auction dynamics, budget handling, and sports logic, which I had never experienced before. I had to quickly learn how to balance team-building strategy with financial management, and I developed skills in persuasion and structured negotiation through this creative setting.
LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
Although the event was organized by the school, I took the initiative to research how real IPL auctions function, how teams are built, and the economic factors behind player bidding. I also planned ahead by preparing notes, player stats, and team strategies before the event to ensure I could actively contribute during the group discussion and auction.
LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
I remained actively involved in all the stages of the committee—from the initial briefings to the final auction and resolution presentation. Even when discussions became competitive or confusing, I stayed focused and contributed meaningfully. My perseverance in refining arguments, keeping up with the pace of the auction, and representing my team’s interests showed my commitment to the creative and collaborative aspects of the event.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
The IPL MUN committee was designed as a group simulation, and collaboration was key. We had to work within our team, strategize collectively, divide research tasks, and present unified bids during the auction. I learned how to compromise, respect others’ ideas, and contribute constructively in a shared space. The experience helped me value how creativity flourishes when people with different strengths come together.
LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
Even though it was a simulation, ethical decision-making was a crucial element. We had to manage our resources fairly, avoid manipulative bidding practices, and ensure respectful communication with other teams. The MUN setting encouraged us to think about fairness, responsibility, and the consequences of our choices—mirroring real-world ethical dilemmas in sports and business environments.
