Fresher’s Dance

We organized a freshers’ party to welcome the new DP batch. I actively participated as a member of the dance team, which involved several rehearsals, coordination, and teamwork. In addition to performing, I also contributed to planning and managing the games section, ensuring everything ran smoothly during the event. Through this experience, I developed and demonstrated several learning outcomes, particularly LO1 (identifying strengths and areas for growth), LO2 (demonstrating challenges and developing new skills), LO4 (showing commitment and perseverance), and LO5 (collaborating with others effectively). Overall, it was a fun and enriching experience that improved both my creative and leadership skills.

LO1: Identify own strengths and areas for growth

Having been passionate about dance for 3–4 years, I was excited to be part of the dance team for the Freshers’ Party. I knew I had the technical ability and stage presence to contribute meaningfully. One of my strengths was adapting quickly to new steps and contributing creatively to the choreography. However, being part of this event also helped me recognize areas for growth. For instance, although I had experience performing, I hadn’t often worked on leading or coordinating a team. When I was given the responsibility to help choreograph and guide others through certain parts of the routine, I realized I needed to develop better organizational skills and confidence in giving feedback to peers. Additionally, performing in front of a large audience brought out nerves I hadn’t experienced before, showing me that I still needed to work on managing performance anxiety and staying calm under pressure. This experience was a great reminder that growth doesn’t end with experience there is always room to learn and improve.

LO2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills

This CAS experience brought many challenges that pushed me out of my comfort zone. One of the biggest difficulties was managing time for regular practice sessions while balancing schoolwork and other responsibilities. Sometimes, we had to rehearse early in the morning or stay back after school, which required a lot of dedication. Another challenge was dealing with moments of frustration when the choreography wasn’t syncing or when some team members struggled to catch up. Instead of letting this affect our morale, we worked together to make adjustments and stayed patient. Personally, I developed new dance techniques during this time and also improved my collaborative thinking realizing that being a good dancer also means supporting others. I also learned to stay mentally focused and positive, even when things weren’t going as planned. These challenges helped me grow not only as a performer but also as a more resilient and flexible individual.

LO4: Show Commitment and Perseverance in CAS Experiences

Throughout the entire journey of preparing for the Freshers’ Party, commitment and perseverance were essential. We practiced regularly for weeks, and as the event drew nearer, our rehearsals intensified. Despite feeling tired and overwhelmed at times, especially when we had academic deadlines, I remained consistent in attending practices and giving my best. Even when there were last minute changes to the steps or formations, I stayed focused and committed to adapting quickly. There were moments where the physical and mental exhaustion could have taken over, but my passion for dance and the responsibility I felt toward the team motivated me to keep pushing forward. This experience helped me understand the true meaning of perseverance continuing to put in effort even when things get tough.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Being a part of the dance team was a truly collaborative experience. Each one of us brought different styles, strengths, and ideas to the table, and the final performance was only possible because of our teamwork. We had to coordinate not only our dance moves but also the timing of our entrances and exits, costume planning, and syncing with the music. Effective communication played a huge role we had to be open to feedback, resolve minor conflicts, and support one another when someone was struggling. I learned the importance of trust and mutual respect in a team. This experience reinforced that collaboration leads to stronger outcomes and that working as a team allows for more creativity, efficiency, and enjoyment in the process.

Participating in the Freshers’ Party as part of the dance team was one of the most enriching CAS experiences I’ve had. It helped me reconnect with my passion for dance while pushing me to grow in new ways. I not only strengthened my performance skills but also improved in areas like leadership, teamwork, stress management, and perseverance. This experience gave me a better understanding of myself and the value of collaboration, and I look forward to continuing to apply these learnings in future CAS activities and beyond.

Throughout this CAS experience, I developed the learner profile attributes of communicatorbalanced, and risk-taker. As a communicator, I regularly interacted with my dance team to share ideas, give and receive feedback, and coordinate movements, ensuring that our choreography was in sync and well-executed. I also practiced active listening during group discussions and made sure everyone felt heard and included. The attribute of being balanced was crucial, as I had to manage my time effectively between academic responsibilities and intense dance rehearsals. This taught me how to prioritize and maintain a healthy balance between schoolwork and my passion. Lastly, I demonstrated the risk-taker attribute by performing on stage in front of a large audience, stepping out of my comfort zone, and exploring new dance styles. These risks helped me grow more confident in my abilities and embrace challenges with a positive mindset.
