I had the opportunity to represent my school’s B team in the Khel Mahakumbh basketball tournament as part of my CAS activity under the strand of Activity. The tournament featured 16 competitive teams, and I played as a starting center throughout the event, contributing significantly to our team’s strong performance. We progressed through all stages and made it to the finals, where we narrowly lost to our school’s A team, finishing as runners-up. This experience was incredibly valuable for me, as I focused on improving key skills like rebounding and boxing out—both essential for my position. Being part of such a high-level competition not only helped me grow as a player but also taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and commitment.
LO 1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
During the Khel Mahakumbh basketball tournament, I demonstrated Learning Outcome 1 by identifying my strengths and actively working on areas for personal growth. As a center, I recognized that my height, positioning, and communication on defense were key strengths that helped anchor our team during tough moments. At the same time, I became more aware of areas I needed to improve, especially my rebounding technique and boxing out under pressure. Acknowledging these gaps motivated me to seek feedback from coaches and put in focused effort during training sessions. This experience helped me better understand my role within a team and pushed me to grow both as an individual player and as a teammate.
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
During the Khel Mahakumbh basketball tournament, I demonstrated Learning Outcome 2 by taking on the challenge of playing as the starting center for my team in every match. Competing against strong and experienced teams pushed me to improve both physically and mentally. One of my key focus areas was developing my rebounding and boxing out skills, which are essential for a center. I dedicated extra time during practice sessions to work on positioning, timing, and physicality under the rim. Playing under pressure in a high-stakes environment and going up against taller or more aggressive players helped me build confidence and resilience. These challenges not only enhanced my technical abilities but also strengthened my overall game awareness and decision-making.
LO 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
During the Khel Mahakumbh basketball tournament, I demonstrated Learning Outcome 3 by planning and preparing thoroughly for the experience, both individually and as part of the team. I committed to regular practice sessions leading up to the tournament, with a specific focus on improving my role as a center—particularly in rebounding and boxing out. I also worked with my teammates and coaches to develop strategies and understand our game plans, ensuring we were well-prepared for each match. I managed my time effectively to balance academics and training, showing that thoughtful planning and preparation were essential to our progress in the tournament and my personal performance on the court.
LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
During the Khel Mahakumbh basketball tournament, I demonstrated Learning Outcome 4 by showing strong commitment and perseverance throughout the competition. From the initial rounds to the final match, I remained fully dedicated to my team, consistently attending practices, maintaining my physical fitness, and giving my best performance in every game. As a starting center, I had to stay mentally focused and physically resilient, especially in high-pressure moments against tough opponents. Even when we faced challenges—like close games or fatigue—I stayed motivated and continued to push myself for the team’s success. Reaching the finals and finishing as runners-up was a result of this sustained effort and determination.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
During the Khel Mahakumbh basketball tournament, I demonstrated Learning Outcome 5 by working collaboratively with my teammates throughout the competition. As the center, my role required constant communication, coordination, and trust with both guards and forwards to execute plays, defend effectively, and control rebounds. We supported each other through wins and tough moments, constantly discussing strategies, encouraging one another, and making in-game adjustments as a unit. Our ability to function as a team was a key reason we reached the finals. This experience strengthened my understanding of teamwork, helped me become a more cooperative and reliable teammate, and showed me how collective effort can lead to shared success.
LO 7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
During the Khel Mahakumbh basketball tournament, I demonstrated Learning Outcome 7 by recognizing and considering the ethics of my choices and actions both on and off the court. I made a conscious effort to play with integrity which means respecting opponents, accepting referee decisions without protest, and encouraging fair play among teammates. In intense moments, I chose to stay composed rather than respond emotionally, understanding that my actions reflected not only on me but also on my school and team. Additionally, I ensured that my commitment to the tournament did not compromise my academic responsibilities, maintaining a balanced and responsible approach. This experience helped me understand the importance of ethical behavior in competitive sports and in life.
