I volunteered for the Play 2 Beat Cancer Pickleball Tournament to help fund cancer research and treatments. To ensure a successful attendance, my tasks included inviting participants, advertising the event, and assisting with pre-event planning. I made an effort to contact potential players, explain the event’s aim, and encourage them to participate. I also collaborated with the organizing team to manage logistics and ensure that everything was properly prepared before to the event. In addition to contributing to a great cause that raises funds and awareness for cancer patients, this experience allowed me to improve my communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities. My main goal was to help my friends help reach to the sponsorships for the event. This service engagement also fulfilled multiple CAS Learning Outcomes since I overcame hurdles, demonstrated perseverance, prepared ahead of time, collaborated with others, and addressed a worldwide issue.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Persuading individuals to play, especially those who were unfamiliar with pickleball, was one of the difficulties I encountered. I overcome this by developing my communication and persuading abilities, emphasizing the importance of the cause, and increasing the event’s popularity. This improved my capacity to engage individuals and increased my confidence in public outreach.
LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.
I aggressively contacted potential attendees, collaborated with organizers, and assisted with pre-event logistics. To maximise participation and fundraising efforts, the participant outreach approach has to be carefully planned and timed.
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.
Reaching out to participants and monitoring pre-event tasks needed consistent effort and dedication. I demonstrated my commitment to the cause by persevering in inviting individuals and ensuring the event ran smoothly despite initial rejections or a lack of responses.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
To ensure a successful event, it was critical to collaborate with a team of volunteers and event planners. I enhanced my cooperation and leadership abilities by talking with my team to allocate duties, encourage one another, and maintain things in order. Through this I could help them find a sponsor for the whole event, in which could help the people.
LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.
The event addressed a major global health issue by raising funds and awareness for cancer research and treatment. I contributed to this initiative to support a cause that affects more than just the city where I live.
Conclusion
Participating in the 2 Beat Cancer Pickleball Tournament was a meaningful and impactful service opportunity. By participating in the event’s organization and implementation, I not only helped to raise funds and awareness for cancer research, a global concern, but I also gained valuable personal and interpersonal skills. From overcoming the obstacle of recruiting new participants to partnering with the organizing team and securing sponsorships, each step of this trip taught me the value of tenacity, initiative, and collaboration. This experience confirmed my conviction in the ability of community action to make a real difference in people’s lives and strengthened my dedication to service that extends beyond my immediate surroundings. This CAS experience allowed me to improve my communication, planning, and collaboration skills while also supporting a cause that is important to millions of people throughout the world.
