Leading with Purpose: My EB Journey at Fountainhead School MUN

Serving as an Executive Board (EB) member at Fountainhead School Model United Nations (FSMUN) was a defining experience in my CAS journey. It wasn’t just about moderating debate sessions or evaluating position papers—it was a transformative experience that helped me grow as a leader, a collaborator, and a global citizen.

LO1: Identifying Strengths and Developing Areas for Growth

Stepping into the role of an EB member, I quickly realized how important it was to be confident, composed, and well-informed. One of my key strengths was communication—I was able to articulate my thoughts clearly and guide delegates effectively. However, I also recognized areas where I needed to grow. For example, time management during sessions and managing pressure in high-stakes moments were challenging at first. Over the course of the MUN, I made a conscious effort to improve these areas by planning more efficiently and learning from senior chairs and co-EB members.

LO2: Taking on Challenges and Building New Skills

FSMUN was not without its challenges. From last-minute changes in the agenda to handling delegates who were either too shy or too dominant, every session came with its own set of hurdles. These situations pushed me to think on my feet, remain impartial, and communicate diplomatically. One major skill I developed through this was crisis management—adapting quickly, staying calm, and still ensuring the debate remained meaningful and inclusive. I also learned how to give constructive feedback, which helped delegates grow and improved my ability to mentor others.

LO6: Engagement with Global Issues

Being part of the MUN reminded me of the pressing global issues we face today—ranging from climate change and cyber security to refugee rights and disarmament. Moderating discussions on such topics helped me see the importance of collaboration, empathy, and the power of youth-led discourse. It deepened my understanding of how international relations function and why it’s essential for young people like us to stay informed and involved.

LO7: Recognizing the Ethics of Choices and Actions

As an EB member, every decision I made—whether in moderating debates, giving awards, or handling conflicts—required ethical judgment. It was crucial to remain unbiased and uphold the integrity of the conference. I often found myself reflecting on the importance of fairness, transparency, and respect in leadership. These moments taught me that leadership isn’t about authority—it’s about responsibility and accountability.
