Rural Immersion – CAS Trip

This CAS experience has been a significant part of my learning experience, allowing me to engage with communities beyond my immediate surroundings. Our class trip to Padamdungri, a rural village, was a truly immersive experience that enabled me to step out of my comfort zone, embrace local traditions, and develop a deeper understanding of rural life.

LO1: Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

Through this experience, I discovered my ability to adapt and connect with people from different backgrounds. The trip also helped me recognise areas where I could improve, such as taking initiative in leadership roles and stepping out of my comfort zone more frequently.

LO2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills

One of the most thrilling parts of the trip was wall rappelling after treking with my peers, an activity far outside my usual comfort zone. It was a moment of personal growth, allowing me to break barriers and build confidence in self-expression. Additionally, learning to cook local dishes and participating in rural craftsmanship were new skills that enriched my experience.

LO3: Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience

Planning for this trip required extensive preparation, from designing activities that would engage the local community to collaboratively designing Warli art on school walls. We carefully coordinated logistics, ensured we had the necessary resources, and brainstormed creative ways to contribute meaningfully to the village. This experience honed my ability to take initiative and structure an impactful CAS experience.

LO4: Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience

The trip was not without its challenges. Adjusting to the rural lifestyle, engaging in physically demanding tasks like applying cow dung to house walls for natural cooling, and stepping out of my comfort zone to participate in activities such as rappelling required perseverance. However, our collective commitment to embracing the experience made it all worthwhile. Every challenge became an opportunity for growth and learning.

LO5: Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

Throughout the trip, teamwork was essential. Whether it was preparing meals, performing a skit for the village school, or creatively engaging in Warli art to beautify the school walls, collaboration was at the heart of every task. By working closely with my classmates and mentors, I learned the importance of effective communication, delegation, and support.

LO6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance

This trip opened my eyes to the realities of rural life and the importance of sustainable living. Witnessing how the villagers utilise natural resources efficiently and maintain a close-knit community highlighted the significance of conservation and cultural preservation. Engaging in their daily practices deepened my appreciation for alternative lifestyles that align with environmental sustainability.

LO7: Recognise and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions

While engaging with the village, I became more aware of the ethical implications of our actions. Whether it was ensuring that our donations were meaningful, respecting local traditions, or approaching our service work with humility, I learned the importance of ethical decision-making in community engagement.
