Service 2: Global Odyssey

I took global odyssey for my service 2 wherein I organised a photobooth. With the photobooth we had to take care of multiple activities and factors such as decor, managing finances, collaboration and managing customers. It gave us experience for creative thinking, collaborative skills, time management, communication skills and more. I’ve taken this as my service. We had the opportunity to work on the photobooth and provide part of our revenue to an NGO that catered to a good cause and also to grow as an individual and improve my skills.

LO 3 Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

I am usually an unorganised person yet while planning this with my peers I got the opportunity to to organize the photo booth, we created a detailed plan, assigning tasks like setup, decorations, and pricing. I managed finances, ensured smooth operations and kept track of payments. I’m generally unorganized, so handling multiple responsibilities was challenging. Planning was harder than initiating, as logistics and budgeting required careful thought. This experience will make future event planning easier, as I learned to anticipate challenges. Knowing how to plan and initiate activities is essential for efficiency and teamwork, especially when supporting a cause like donating profits to an NGO.

LO 4 Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Organizing the photobooth required perseverance and commitment, especially in managing logistics, setting up the booth, and ensuring smooth operations. One major challenge was attracting customers while balancing costs to maximize profits for the NGO. It was frustrating at times, but staying committed to the cause kept me motivated. Completing this activity required time management, teamwork, and problem-solving. I generally find it easy to commit to things I’m passionate about, but persistence was key in handling unexpected obstacles. Perseverance is important because it ensures success despite difficulties. Seeing the profits go to a good cause made all the effort worthwhile.

LO 5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Working with others is generally easy for me, but challenges arise when roles are unclear. During this activity, teamwork was essential in setting up the photobooth efficiently. Some members were less engaged, but I handled it by communicating clearly and redistributing tasks. Collaboration ensured smooth operations, and leadership helped in decision-making. Teamwork was crucial in maximizing profits, allowing us to successfully donate to the NGO and create a meaningful impact.

LO 6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

The issue addressed was supporting social causes through fundraising, specifically aiding an NGO. Globally, many organizations rely on donations to support underprivileged communities. By organizing a photobooth and donating the profits, we contributed to this cause. Understanding global issues fosters empathy and responsibility. Knowing this motivates me to help more. This activity reinforced the power of small actions in making a real difference, inspiring me to continue supporting meaningful initiatives.

LO 7 Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

One ethical issue was ensuring transparency and fairness in handling funds raised for the NGO. It was important to honestly communicate the purpose of the photobooth and ensure that all profits were donated as promised. This indirectly affected me by making me more aware of ethical fundraising. It felt rewarding yet also a big responsibility. My opinion on ethical fundraising deepened, reinforcing the need for accountability and integrity in charity work.

Organizing a photobooth and donating the profits to an NGO was a meaningful experience that combined creativity with social impact. It highlighted the importance of teamwork, financial responsibility, and ethical decision-making. Beyond raising funds, it reinforced the power of small initiatives in making a difference. This experience taught me that even simple ideas can create positive change when driven by purpose, collaboration, and a commitment to helping others.
