Every year, my school organizes a nightout that allows students to participate in various sports such as cricket, basketball, pickleball, and more. This event is not only about competition but also about stepping out of our comfort zones and trying something new. For this year’s nightout, I chose to participate in pickleball, a sport I had limited experience with before. The tournament was organized by our juniors from Grade 11, who put in great effort to ensure the event was smooth and enjoyable for everyone.
Learning About Myself (LO1)
Choosing pickleball helped me identify my strengths and areas for growth. I realized that I am quick to adapt and open to learning new skills, even when I am not fully confident at the start. At the same time, I noticed that I needed to improve my hand-eye coordination and game strategy. This experience helped me become more aware of my abilities and motivated me to work on my weaknesses.
Taking on Challenges and Developing New Skills (LO2)
Since pickleball was relatively new to me, participating in the tournament was challenging. I had to quickly understand the rules, scoring system, and gameplay techniques. Playing under night conditions added another level of difficulty, as visibility and focus became more important. Despite this, I pushed myself to stay calm, learn from each rally, and improve with every match. This experience helped me develop new sports skills and boosted my confidence in trying unfamiliar activities.
Perseverance and Commitment (LO4)
Throughout the tournament, there were moments when I felt tired and overwhelmed, especially during intense matches. However, I remained committed and did not give up. I continued to encourage myself and my teammates, staying focused until the end of the games. Participating in the nightout pickleball tournament showed my perseverance and dedication to completing the CAS experience wholeheartedly.
Collaboration and Teamwork (LO5)
Pickleball is a sport that requires strong coordination and communication, especially when played in doubles. I learned how important teamwork is—supporting my partner, discussing strategies, and maintaining a positive attitude even when mistakes were made. Additionally, interacting with my juniors who organized the event helped me appreciate collaborative efforts and leadership skills. Working together made the entire experience more enjoyable and successful.
Conclusion
Overall, attending the pickleball tournament during my school’s nightout was a memorable and meaningful experience. It allowed me to grow personally, take on challenges, demonstrate perseverance, and work effectively with others. This CAS experience not only improved my sporting skills but also taught me valuable life lessons that extend beyond the court.
